Double rifles - Long range accuracy

I recently bought a 9.3x74 double rifle (over and under) from Fab Arm.

I can get it to shoot an MOA at 100y but at 200y I'm having a bit more difficulty to get it to group consistently.

I had originally hoped to get it to shoot consistently up to 300y however I have recently read that at any significant ranges past the point of regulation the accuracy of Doubles degrade to the point that they are impossible to control and really have very little utility.

Is this true? Can anyone enlighten me a bit on the subject ?
 
Just a thought, but if you were to sight your "primary" barrel to shoot accurately at distance, and live with the accuracy of the second barrel, would that suffice? How about setting both barrels up for a 200 yard target. What kind of grouping do you get at 100 and 300.
I haven't played with a double, but it sounds like they are a little finicky to tune.
 
I would say sight in your primary barrel to the range you want and play to find out the point of impact range for the secondary barrel.
 
I guess I could. Use one barrel as my "long range" barrel. But its supposed to be a "double". You would think the bullets would run along side each other from the barrel all the way to the point of impact... what ever that point of impact may be.

I get approx 1 inch groupings at 100 and then at 200 they were inconsistent.....3 inches then 5 inches. But to be fair I never spent much time at 200 yet. My query was based upon just reading some stuff on the internet saying that doubles were only good up to 125 yards or so then were completly inaccurate.
 
A SxS double will have the barrels regulated to converge at a certain distance. This may be true of a o/u, I'm not sure but if they are adjustable you should be able to make them follow similar paths. Keep in mind that at best the you will have two separate groups beginning an inch and a half apart and continueing like that as they move farther from the gun.

I don't have much experience with o/u rifles but I have done a lot of shooting with sxs rifles and they are not regulated for a set distance that is a shotgun regulation. A rifle is regulated to shoot parallel at any distance and mine will all shoot well at the distances marked on the sights which is 500 yards on 2 of them. I assume that you have a scope on the fabarm so it could be a case of load varation, the 9.3 should be regulated with 286grn bullets so it may be a slight speed difference causing the problem.

I have some double rifles and might be able to help, but I do not understand your question.

Are you saying the barrels will print to the same place at 100 yards but won't shoot to the same place at 200? That would not surprise me. But if you can get your rifle to superimpose at a useful distance, you are fortunate.

Or, are you saying that a barrel will shoot a tight group at 100 but not at 200? That is a different issue.
