So let’s say a guy would like to get one, in a medium bore like 35, 9.3, 375 etc and that his budget is under 4K what are his options in getting a decent quality gun that will shoot “straight”(barrels well tuned(forgot the right term))? Where in Canada one could find such double?
Are side x side better than o/u or opposites?
Thanks

The term is regulated ?
Clay @ Prophet River could hook you up I am sure.
There is a Beretta SXS on his home page under consignment or used area, but likely a little more than you are looking to spend.

Get a good bolt action and call it a day. You are looking at 10K + for anything decent. As much as double rifles interest me, their cost always offset my need for one. I would much rather own 4 beautiful Ruger #1's in a variety of calibres. :)

I was just wondering what were the options and it look like they aren’t many hahaha! I have 2 Ruger no1, maybe I should find a good Mauser 98 in 9.3x62…..

Under $4000, that's asking to make a silk purse from a sows ear. If I was going to purchase another double rifle, it would be a Chapuis. I've handled one at the Calgary Shooting Centre in a 9.3x74R. It handled quite well, however the barrels were only 22 inches long, I prefer the 24 inches, better yet, the 26 inches. What I was most impressed about was the workmanship/craftsmanship, very very nice. You will have to query their website for further information on the rifle, however the price was around $5,500.

There are a number of good used options out there if you are willing / able to move the dial on your budget up to the $6K mark.

I have seen used Merkels and Blaser doubles for sale under $6K in recent months. I personally missed out on a Merkel SxS double 30-06 that sold for less than 5K a couple of months ago. Too slow on the buy now button.

Epps has a used Blaser S2 SxS double in 9.3x74R for sale today priced at $5995.

I recall seeing a Chapuis 8x57r SxS for sale on Ralf Martini's website within the past year in the $5-6K range.

If an over and under is an option you'd consider then finding something in your original budget may be possible.

I have seen Beretta Sable and Fabarm Asper o/u's in 9.3x74R advertised here on CGN right around $4k. Just have to be patient.

Not quite in the price range, but a new Merkel B4 combination gun is just a shade over $5000. A B3 double rifle would be pretty much the same price I believe. Wolverine Supplies can order it in.

Edit: they have a 30-06 B3 in stock for $4,680. B3 is offered in 9.3x74r as its largest cartridge.

Thanks guys !! More of a dream at the moments than reality for me but still fun to find out what is what !!

Patience could be a virtue in this acquisition. . Frequent the gun shows when things return to normal and pay attention to some of the Canadian websites and you might find what you're looking for.

I believe it was 2006 when a good friend and business associate and I completed a successful business venture when he presented me with a beautiful double gun outfit with two separate set of barrels made by Raick Freses of Liege Belgium. First set is 24" rifle barrels in 8x57 JRS and the second set is 26" 20 ga shotgun with 3" chambers. There's a leather carrying case for the off barrels. The stock work is fine line checkered dark walnut with front button release forearm. No idea what something like this is worth but I don't doubt it's affordable as there's no engraving, to speak of, with the metal work.

Now that is a fine specimen! I love the bare white receiver, just like a heym 88b PH. Do you have any more pictures of that beauty maybe in the natural light?
