I've had a few rifles with double set triggers and enjoyed them immensely for function and nostalgia purposes. They have that panache' of isolated uniqueness among the common single triggers. Most, or all non gun users, and some gun owners, may question, "why does this rifle have two triggers with only one barrel?" A simple question to answer, with zeal and interest.

Although they function well, I'm slightly brachydactyly challenged. My trigger finger is forever reaching for the front trigger, which in return feels unorthodox and unbalanced. However, I do find the the pistol grip on most rifles with DST are overly long-gated and wished that a more aggressive angle of grip. I only have one rifle with a sharp angle grip, and the front trigger is easy and comfortable to manipulate.

Anyone have the same issue, or any other delivery on the DST.

in our hunting club the double set trigger on rifle were prohibited for driven or beaten hunts. but more than welcome on stalking mode ... you re not the only one with that brain issue lol ...

Maybe a single set trigger would work better for you.I have a few guns with double set triggers and only use them when hunting if I am shooting from a blind/stand.Also I only use them hunting if the weather allows shooting without a glove on.Though I think they look cool and love them I rarely use them except at the range

Agree, a little extra time is required when using the DST, while hunting big game. Safety off, rear trigger set, and then the front trigger. I have to be most careful with the front trigger on my current rifle, it's set under 6 oz., probably closer to 4 oz.

Using set triggers always reminds me of the famous Burr /Hamilton duel down in the States.Hamilton being the insulted part had choice of the weapons and chose of course his own personal dueling pistols.During the duel Hamilton’s pistol fired prematurely before he could get a good shot at Burr,Burr then proceeded to kill Hamilton. At the time it was considered a case of nerves on Hamilton’s part for missing Burr.Years later in the 70s down in the States with the Bicentennial and when black powder reproductions were hot they decided to do a reproduction of the Burr/Hamilton dueling pistols.Upon examination of the original pistols to get the dimensions for the repros it was found the the guns had a set trigger that only the owner of the pistols would be aware of.So basically Hamilton was cheating and it got him killed.Being nervous and using set triggers is not a good idea.Funny thing is after the duel Burr was hated and reviled for killing Hamilton and basically disgraced for it.If the public at the time had of known that Hamilton tried to cheat they might of had a different opinion of the outcome of the duel

Well, nothing really surprises me of past and present in the U.S. of wide America. Us Canadians have the same culture, language and religion of our brothers south of the 49th, but different dreams and attitudes. Being that Burr was a politician it was obvious to be disliked, even charged for murder, however acquitted...................probably a judge who favored Burr's political party.
The only duel I wish to encounter is a rutting buck or bull with an aggressive rutting attitude.;););)

my brother just purchased a CZ 550 with a single set trigger and i must say im pretty jealous. the triggers on these rifles are highly adjustable. 2 triggers looks way cooler in my opinion but the single set trigger is also pretty sweet

I’ve tried to like set triggers on hunting rifles a couple times now. Give me a normal trigger with a clean break at 2.5 pounds please.

I do like the look though. My Mauser 66 stutzen has them adding more class to an already classy gun

I have a couple of Newton rifles with DST and their forward triggers, when set, dont seem too far out for comfortable use... I generally use the set function with the one in 257 Roberts. I also have a Canjar single set trigger on a Remington which functions nicely BUT in all cases I avoid wearing gloves when using the set function on the Newtons or Remington as it is too easy to touch off these 'set' triggers with gloves.

My favorite actually is the 'straight' single set trigger found on the ZKK series of rifles. It is even nice to use on the 602 in 375H&H (they are darned accurate rifles as well!)... whats nice about the straight set trigger on the ZKK is it leaves a lot of room inside the trigger guard for a gloved trigger finger. Hope that makes sense -- but thats how it is for me.

What is your other Newton chambered for? I had two other rifles in the single set trigger, CZ 527 and Sako 85, enjoyed them a lot. Everyone hunts differently, however there are many overlapping similarities. My son and I never hunt with gloves, always mittens, because it's usually the last two weeks in November, which we love to hunt the most, -15 C to -25 Celsius. When it's time to shoot, it's always with bare hands, regardless of how cold it is. Our hands are very warm from walking or having hand warmers inside our double layered mittens.

I have SST triggers on my CZ527, CZ557 Lux and on my Brno Effect single shot--all excellent. I also have a DST on my 1950 Brno 21 (formerly track's rifle) and it is also excellent for stalking and stationary shots. The Brno 21 has a generous trigger guard, so never a problem with gloves. I basically look for rifles with SST and DST.

the other Newton is 30-06 and has a ‘Newton-Pope’ segmental rifling barrel. Also have a spare 35 Whelan barrel that was set up for the 257 Robert’s barrelled action. Bare hands are probably wise ... I have used mittens that permit exposing your fingers briefly if necessary....the Canjar set feature is a little different than many single set triggers .. when the Canjar is set (pushing the trigger forward) - there is a small tab that protrudes from the face of the trigger shoe that activates the strike.

I own two, and wouldnt even think of taking them hunting. The sensitivity is extreme, so extreme its like learning to shoot all over again.

Practice, practice and practice. All of my rifles have a set trigger at 1.5 pounds, the DST at 4 oz. Range time is fun year-round, moreover, very important to have range-time in late October and early November, especially with the DST. My DST rifle is a single shot, no chances for a quick second.
