Dove Ammo?

You're thinking the non toxic requirement for doves is a bit silly, while others like me are just grateful that we finally have a season around here. More ammo should be available as retailers will be getting requests for smaller non toxic shot already.

As for shot size, you could hunt doves with BB shot if you wanted too with little meat damage as the pattern would be so sparse that you'd likely only hit the bird with a pellet or two. Unlike most, I prefer larger #4-5 shot for grouse and rabbit as I don't enjoy a bunch of tiny 7 1/2's or 8's in my meat and the larger pellets tend to pass through the animal rather than staying in them.

Me too, enough pellets to have good density, but big enough to have the energy to pass through.

I had a chance to go dove hunting in Kansas, seriously fun! I'm a bit jealous you guys out east get a dove season, I wish we had some here in BC.

We are using the Kent #7 steel loads in 20 gauge... We bought 4 flats from the Kent rep when he was at our LGS.

Where would someone look for these birds? Is the population in northern Ontario very high? I don't recall seeing any, but I wasn't looking for them either.
