Dove hunting

I shoot kent fast steel number 7 from my 12, seems to work ok.
Trying to find steel for my my wifes 28, couldnt imagine a better size.
Dove breast, jalapeño slice, wrapped in bacon. Makes it all worth while.

I have been using Winchester Xpert (WE20GT 6) which is a 3/4 oz load of #6 steel shot. This particular product number is for 20 gauge. I can't find it listed on their product page so it might be discontinued.

I shot em opening day with the 28 with xpert steel loads in a #7, shot yesterday with the 12 using win super x 4's. we're hunting vineyards, knocking em down isn't hard. Keeping em down is! Had plenty of runners or fly offs as you're trying to duck low grape wires to get to em

Guy at Triggers and Bows said that 20ga only comes in #7? Anyways hope to be frying up some soon.

I don't know why they would say that because I know for a fact that Federal Speed-Shok WF208 comes in 4, 6, and 7 steel shot and that Federal Speed-Shok WF207 comes in 1, 2, 3, and 4 steel shot. I own a bunch of it and its cheap! I think I bought my WF208 for $10.49 a box at Bass Pro and the WF207 was $14.99 at Epps. I'd have to check my spreadsheet but I am pretty sure I only paid $9.99 for the Winchester Xpert I mentioned in my previous post.

EDIT: I checked my spreadsheet and I was right, that Winchester Xpert was $9.99 at Epps when I bought it last fall.

I had a few boxes of the winchester faststeel #6s they worked just fine (12g). I was in contact with CWS last year about the possibility of using an air rifle (500+ fps) and the manager John something (have to check for his last name)seemed to be good with it, I also forwarded my email chain to OFAH so they could get behind it too, but there was no further communication with them after the initial and no air rifle season added. I guess they would have to revise the migratory bird act to allow rifles (air) for doves only and that doesn't happen to fast.

With doves, I either walk the edges of crops with the lab and flush, spot and stalk, or my favorite sit out back and pass shoot them in the back yard with the Do-all-outdoors aerial assault for clays in between doves and starlings!

I shoot an older 12g and use #7 shot. I've tried both Challenger and Winchester shells and dont have a preference for either other then that Winchester shells I found were $3/box cheaper. Doves are very delicate birds and it doesnt take much to kill them. I swear I have killed some in which I could not positively find a wound of any sort after plucking the entire body. Almost like the sound of the shotgun blast dropped them dead. Last year I took a single shot at an incoming group and three birds dropped dead. Unfortunately the bird I took aim at was slightly ventilated, but the other two birds were literally unmarked inside and out. Not sure why they dropped, but they were dead before hitting the floor. Go figure!
