Point taken.I doubt the first step in making a tack driver out of an m14 is shortening the barrel.
This has been my experience too.So far my shorty seems more accurate than my long norcs
From what I have read velocity loss for .308 in short barrels is minor until below about 18-19 inches. This length may be the sweet spot for this cal; the benefits to the handling characteristics far outweighing a slight ballistic disadvantage. The really short Springfield guns are another matter. Using standard ammunition 16" or less is IMO sacrificing too much velocity for a general purpose rifle. To say nothing of the muzzle blast!Im sure at longer ranges the diminished shorty velocity will diminish accuracy.
Is the hieght of the gas lock set for the standard length barrel or cut down 18" barrels?
