I am thinking of getting a receiver peep sight that fits the dovetails on an older Brno 22. Ideally it should be adjustable to work with the stock front sight. I looked at one from New England Custom Guns at US$99 but not sure if it would work on the Brno. I am not looking for 1/2" at 50 yards but more like minute of squirrel at 25 yards. Any recommendations?

Peep sights typically only work with super high front blades. If I didn't know what height I needed and wasn't able to determine a measurement, I wouldn't get one unless it came as a set...otherwise it probably won't work.

Lyman front sight comes to mind along with something like a redfield micrometer rear.Like Jihnto said your probably better off finding something with peeps already set up.Last year I was looking for the same after aquiring a junker 42b mossberg with peeps I was lucky to find a minty winchester 69a with Lyman front and redfield rear at a gun show. Its a very accurate combo shooting about 1.5"to 1.75" at 54 yds with aguila SV and CCI SV.Definatly a deadly squirrel, rabbit set up.I paid $300 for it,guy was asking $400

I had a Williams FP-CZ peep sight on my 452 lux with a taller front sight blade. I don't know how wide or deep the older Brno dovetails are... wider is no problem as long it's not deeper than the 452 dovetails or the top of the receiver between the dovetails isn't rounded.

Older pre-1970's Brno's have 16mm dovetails, later ones are 11mm. You won't find any dovetail mounted peep sight that will work with the original front sight as it will be too low. We used to be able to get a Brno manufactured peep sight set to fit the 16mm rail which came with a front riser block and tunnel front sight. Unfortunately the fellow in California selling them is now out of business.
Williams makes a peep sight to fit the 11mm rail on the later Brno's and CZ452's but I don't think there is a higher front sight available to fit the older Brno's with the fore-aft removable front sight.
It is not uncommon to come across older model 2's and 5's which were drilled and tapped for side mounted Lyman or Redfield target sights. Usually with something like a Lyman 17 front sight installed either by making an adapter or milling a cross dovetail in the front sight.

Confirm the dovetail sizes. The rear should be 16mm and the front may have a 11 mm dovetail that accommodates the front globe. If this is your combo there still is a source for Brno target sights.
Post a picture of the gun as it is now and then it will be much easier to get the correct sights. As stated the Brno setup can still be purchased.

I have a Skinner sight on my Norinco JW15, which is a CZ clone. Not sure about your model but if it has standard CZ dovetails you're good to go. Contact Skinner to confirm. They are very good to deal with and will answer any questions.

The sight is a precise, beautifully made piece. You can also get an adjustable aperture for it. You will probably need a higher front sight. If your's is replaceable then it's easy. Otherwise a gunsmith can replace the blade for about $50.

I just put a Williams 5D-AG on my bl22 which clamps right into dovetail grooves and am sure it would clamp onto the bigger dovetail on the European guns. Ended up putting a Lyman 17atc globe on cause factory blade was nowhere near tall enough. This williams sight is kind of big and bulky and doesn't have the target knobs but this is an accurate setup. Haven't shot it alot yet but was out today and hitting empty 20ga shells consistently at 50 yds. Good enough for me.

If you're really lucky, you might find an old Parker Hale peep for the 16mm dovetail. I have one on a Brno model 1 and it is a beautiful little sight which matches the original front sight height perfectly. I is very compact and has good adjustment. Probably like looking for hens teeth, but they are out there!
