hey all,

Any recommendation for a hotel near the night action in Halifax, downtown? I'm not staying by the airport, $50 taxi ride away from the city this year, haha! I'll rent a car for driving to/from the range, but want to walk for drinks/dinner/etc...

How about this: http://www.westin.ns.ca/ourhistory.asp or http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/yhzri-residence-inn-halifax-downtown/ ?

location and proximity to Sat and Sun evening fun is more important than the details of the hotel...?

Thanks!

Prince George Hotel is, like, one block away from the biggest concentration of bars, Delta Barrington is midway between waterfront bars and uptown bars.
The Westin is nice, but a bit of a walk from most stuff. The Marriott is well located for uptown but farther front waterfront.

Then there are a bunch of new ones, I'll have to check names and locations.

Yes, I have stayed at the Delta three times in the last 3 years and it is nice and convenient. There is also the Lord Nelson and the Sheraton or Casino hotel. Cambridge Suites in downtown as well.

Hi,

I actually live in Halifax so I could probably give you a good idea of where to stay. The Lord Nelson, Delta Barrington, Casino Hotel, Citadel Hotel, Prince George, are very close to all the nightlife/restautrants.
There is an airport bus that will take you from the airport to all the hotels that I mentioned and it is something like 14 bucks each way, which is much cheaper than the taxi.
Have fun while you are in town, people are friendly out here so don't be afraid to say 'hi'. Also for supper one night hit up Phil's Seafood, best fish and chips in the world, good prices great food, its on Quinpool rd (the city is not that big ask someone where Quinpool rd, you can't miss it)

Hope this helps.:)

DELTA BARRINGTON HALIFAX it is, then, just made the reservations... Will need to figure out which places to hit from there, hehe ;)

Thanks, all.

If you like Single Malt Scotch, then Maxwells Plum it is! They have the largest selection in the City. It just down the hill from the Citadel, and a couple of blocks from the convention center and the legislature building. I think it was on Argyle street... (any locals can correct me?) Another place, if you like pubs, is the SeaHorse(?) which is in the same area. Allegedly one of the oldest in Halifax. The back room used to be a stable or something (got the story from the bartender, but I was half tanked at the time, and it was 3 years ago anyway).

I hope a local can give better directions or locations, but of all the places I got dragged to, these two were the most memorable! What a great town!:dancingbanana:
