DPMS .22 upper assembly

I talked to the DPMS guys at SHOT about the .22 kit. They have currently pulled it and are working on ways to put the ejector on to the bolt assembly rather than the magazine. This project is not high on their priorities and they did not have any interest in doing exports into Canada.

I have one. Picked it up about two years ago. I ordered it with a free float tube to increase accuracy. I had to send it back due to accuracy issues and they went through about 5 barrels before they found one that met my requirements of 3/4" at 50 yds. They were very accomodating. I broke a firing pin and they sent me a new one within two weeks.

The upper has a few minor issues. I sometimes get FTE because the chamber is so tight. I get quite a few light strikes resulting in FTF but I think thats because I have a JP match trigger in my lower and the hammer spring is quite light. Works great on my M4 .223 upper but not so good on my .22 upper. I live with it. I have to use Eley Target Rifle ammo to get the 3/4" at 50 yds. Regular junky stuff like Federal bulk works great at 25yds with a 1/2" group and I've been told that the upper really likes Winchester Dyna Points but we can't get that here anymore.

DPMS is re-designing their bolt as there have been alot of complaints about FTE. I will be getting the new bolt when its ready and hopefully that will solve my FTE problem. It's really not that bad but on occasion we shoot some speed shoots, sort of like IPSC with rimfire rifles and the FTE screws things up alot. I have a large advantage over the other rimfires as I can do mag changes much faster due to the AR design but the FTE takes away that advantage for now. And BTW the DPMS upper uses full size mags like the .223, not those skinny pistol type mags they use for the Ciener Conversion kit. They work extremely well.

Overall, I'm quite happy with it. It needs serious cleaning after about 200 rounds as the .22 ammo is so dirty and the crap gets everywhere and gums things up really well. My upper doesn't like it when I don't clean her and she lets me know it. The only other rimfire that comes close to the DPMS upper is my 2nd gen R22. I would rate the DPMS upper as an 8.5 out of 10.

what Mr. said, i used to have a DPMS M4 styled upper, it worked quite well, but like Mr. said it doesn't like to be dirty. For what it was, it was quite accurate.

I always ran rem yellow jackets through it that worked flawlessly.
