Dr. optic clone question

just a quick question regarding my dr optic clone(1337), or for that matter, any reddot optic like it.
when i'm indoors the dot is perfectly visible, yet when i go outside into the sunlight, i lose the dot unless the scope is inches away from a target, is this normal?
btw i used to have a bushnell sportsman 1x30 reddot tube scope and it was fine outdoors.

does it have multiple brightness settings. maybe its not turned up enough?
