Dragging out deer - which Game Cart?

A calving sleigh, or even a good sized ice fishing sleigh takes the work right out of dragging a deer if there is snow or even a bit of frost on the ground. Even on bare ground it's better than nothing. They don't take up much room in the truck, and once you get used to the idea of it being there you find all Sorts of uses for one.

I use antlers if they're there, a front leg if not. I admit, it can get old on longer drags.
 
I hate my game cart. Might be OK in the wide open but next to useless in the bush. I would rather pack a fall arrest harness and tie a rope to the loop at the back. If it's tied to a sled then even better. A game cart might be better if it was a single wheeled unit but would be top heavy and hard to balance.

And once you've done enough of the longer ones, you will get yourself a calf sled. Carts are idiotic. A calf sled will slide on grass as well as it does on snow, can be simply pulled over logs once you get the front onto them, can be dragged kind of "floating" on badger brush, can be carefully ridden down hill like a toboggan (just sit on the deer), and holds a lot of "stuff" when needed.

Get a calf sled and forget the macho dragging/carrying stories that young hunters think are "manly". It is a very useful hunting tool.
 
A jet sled is what I use and it's great. Plus works well for more then just dragging deer.
I have the jet sled Xl and the 230 pound pound buck I shot this deer fit in it perfectly
 
Yes the winter type calf sleds with a pull rope on the front work very well snow or no snow. Very light weight and do not take up a bunch of room in the truck box. I also carry a cordless milwakee reciprocating sawsall in my "get the game out backpack". You can cut off the legs, open the brisket and pelvis in about a whole two minutes and off you go lightweight and shortened to the truck. A couple other great items that I have come across hunting with others is the Butt Plug Twister which allows you to pull out and cut the anal tube in about five seconds, cut it off and the rib cage spreader tool which is very handy when you are alone and want to do a no mess gutting job. The best thing of all that I have come across in years of hunting is believe it or not, "wet ones, diaper wipes, call them what you want but you can clean your hands, your knives and other tools right there in the bush and carry your game right to the truck with totally clean knives and hands. Start that truck up and go get some more not the same. You gotta love November guys...
 
Another vote for the calving sled. Not only do they work great for getting your critter out to a road they make loading said critter in your pickup fairly easy if you are by yourself.

Another bonus, they keep the blood out of the box of your truck and prevent it from dripping down onto your bumper. .
 
antlers and your arms and legs. just hauled one out tonight in the pouring rain. the satisfaction when the haul is complete and the deer is loaded is second to none. love that feeling.
 
I have the Sasquatch game cart and find it works better than most because it doesn't have to axle shaft to get in the way. It is also a great help when loading game into the truck by yourself. Just lean it on the tail gate, lift the other end and push it in. Although when there's snow on the ground I use a calf sled as the cart is hard to pull through the deep snow.
