Greetings Folks.

Quick question for you.

I am aware that the Russian Dragunov SVD are banned in Canada. My question is if the Romanian PSL and Chinese NDM's are also banned?

I haven't been able to find either on the list of firearms banned by the Canadian government.

Thanks guys.

Yes. Pretty much yes.

If it uses the same system, or even looks too similar, it is a variant and prohib.

Even if not by name, they would likely just call it an SVD and confiscate it at the border anyways. SVT is about as close as you'll go.

Mr Garrison says..........

all the above are considered varients of the SVD includeing the Tigr.......which is an EVIL SATANIC GUN as far as Canadian legislation is concerned .........

MKAY?

SVD, PSL, NDM and tigr all banned and all my favorites , snif .... snif.

also FNC1 , WAAAAAH !!!!

PSL uses an RPK style action, unlike Dragunov. Technically, the Dragunov is not an AK.

But I agree..... It looks baaaad. Who wants one?

PSL has an AK style action (full stroke gas piston),
Dragunov and NDM have short stroke.
Basically, PSL has a very-very beefed-up AK-style action
with a different trigger group.
It doesn't interchange any parts with the Dragunov,
not even mags (just same ammo).

Having fired a few PSLs, I can only wait the day they will be de-prohibited. I mean.... this is 1960's technology. time to declassify....

this is prohib? im so confused, its a bolt action rifle like any other

There's no need to be confused. We will take care of you. You don't need nasssty guns. If there's a problem, which there won't be because things are perfect, just call this number. An operator will happily talk you through your problems while you wait for a response.

The SVD has little to nothing in common with the AK, they had absolutely no right or reason to ban it. It shares a similar gas system with the SVT. The PSL's and NDM's are all accurized versions of the AKM.

nyah, nyah, nyah....... NDM's are all accurized versions of the AKM.
No. They are not. :slap: That is lieberal propaganda bullshyte.
You see, the real problem with google (wikipedia, whatever)
is that even if it's intended to enlighten minds,
sometimes it brutally turns knitting old fat grandmas
into instant firearms experts (the very-opinionated kind)
and of course, very often it feeds them BS info.
Geez.... :slap:

What is actually harder to find (when using google or wikipedia) is that
the so-called NDM86 (regardless of the cartridge)
is a hybrid Type79/85 intended for export.
Type79 is a very close version of the SVD, and it was developed under Russian licence.
It has nothing to do with the AK family (regardless of what you've read on arfcom).
The same like the SVD, the Type79 and 85 series
are close to the SKS design, not the AK design.

Some people may even support the idea that, looking at the peculiar
camming action of the bolt-carrier, shape of the bolt lugs
and the way they are secured in the receiver,
the Type85 (which, BTW, was not covered by the said design/manuf. licence agreement)
and consequent variants (for example ODM87 among others)
may be considered the furthest away from the design of the AK family
than any other eastern "sniper" rifle counterpart is.

As I explained in my post on page 1,
the Romanian PSL design and its versions
(and maybe some other rifles, but not the NDM)
were indeed based on the AK.
(Ok, now you can go ahead and flame me).

Anyway, speaking of the SVD's "friends":
Don't forget the the elusive SVU, that is actually a bullpup-ed SVD.
I think that the monkey-stupid cantilever/console-type bipod
was requested by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs  :slap:

Maybe Deckard can start a "would you bring...." thread. With poll.
And somebody please give him directions in building a shell deflector for lefties.

And, of course, the Zastava M76/M78/M84/M87/M91 etc.,
chambered in 8x57 Mauser, 7.62 NATO (308), 7.62x54R
(and maybe a couple more cartridges) depending of version.
I hope everybody can see it was based on the 10/22 krinker-plinker design ;)

And don't forget the Russian SVDK in 9.3x64,
cartridge claimed to be more powerfull than 338LM:confused:
and said to be based on 9.3x64 Brenneke

They also make a civvie (Tigr 9) in that cartridge.
