I'm very interrested in getting a Dragunov SVD, but after my gs told me that I couldn't get one in Canada, I just gave up. I was just wondering if somebody by any chance would have one or could tell me how to get one. Any suggestions welcome.

PS: Also looking for an original Russian SKS, (Since I was born in Russia, I got some interest in my backround's guns) :)

Thanks

due to the inflicted wounds to the public eyes - the highly trained people who make the laws in Canda are compelled to prohibit any of the AK variants.
Didn't you notice that all the bad guys have AKs?
Why would you want one unless you're a bad guy?
And if you're a bad guy, we sure don't want you to have a gun!

Are you a bad guy?

CONFESS!!!!!!

I hope you see where this is going.
As Canadians we became the domesticized creatures who kiss the master's hand for what they were allowed to have, counting the days to the day all others will see the evil in the eyes of the firearms owners.... followed by the inevitable confiscation off all .........

Nevermind bringing new ones at the table.......\\\

I miss the PSL . The Americans can get one brand new for not many dollars.
Different than the Dragunov, but as close you'll get for shaving just under 1k.

Grab a Mosin. Doesn't that lift the spirit?

Unless you have a Prohibited permit already, you can't get one. The rifle is prohibited by name. Has been since 1995. And don't expect the new government to change its status. They've already said that anything currently restricted or prohibited will stay that way.

Curse them! Why Can't we just roll things back to the way there were in 1955? Then I could have a AK, Dragunov and FAL, Maybe a Tommy gun.

I want a Dragunov... but Windy Wendy say's it's a Super Sniper, Long Range, Assualt Rifle, with a Super Capacity Clip*

Stupid Government, Went though Janes small arms encylopedia and just checked off the Scary looking guns. Jerks! JERKS I SAY!

*Only someone that stupid would call it a clip..

Don't want to pose as a critic, but like the old lady said to the fairy : make me young ! doesn't necesarily mean beautifull too.

If you don't see a resemblance is because the SVD was adopted by the Soviets in 1963 wich pretty much rules out you having one in '55.

nevermind the others mentioned. ;)

IIRC at one point in time the NDM-86 (Chinese SVD) in 7.62x51mm was NOT prohib, while the same gun in 7.62x54R was.

This has probably changed, but it might be worth looking into.

Unfortunately a PSL (commonly advertised as an Rumanian "SVD") is built on an RPK receiver & is a true AK variant.

NDM-86 is prohib.
I don't know if it is an exact copy of the SVD or just looks like one.
if it just looked like one it could be argued that it is not an Ak derivative.
but if the .22lr look alike to the ak is prohib because it looks like.......
you get the picture.

With the Conservatives saying that they will have a gun registry amnesty and the only guns registered will be the...

(1) handguns and
(2) automatics...

Then the ak's, galil's and others like dragonov's will hopefully be legal again very soon!!!

Cheers

In the late 80's , a few east german dragonov's were imported into canada. century sold a 'hunting" rifle copy before the law change with 5rd magazines. these were shorter if I recall.

this thread makes me sad... I want one too :(
I just can't understand how a (supposedly)rational person would create these guns laws. Worst is I cant understand how other rational people let them do it.

Our problem is that most people are the human equivalent of Chihuahuas; small, shrill, inbred, yappy, and prone to uncontrollable shaking and widdling on the carpet when startled.

I've got a long haired Chi Hua Hua who takes exception to that characterization, she only barks when someone unauthorized heads to the gun cabinet. :D

And yes the PSL is also prohibited
did they make a 7.62 x 54 valmet that one to get away with? but then there is probably a barrel change involved and members of this board would banish you .
