Hi guys,

Question : anyone have or are selling or know who's selling a dragunov or any of it's variants?

Even a PSL would appease my want for now but I'd settle for a NDM-86. I prefer it in 7.62x54r and not .308 but better to have a .308 then none, no?

thanks for your time
Looking forward to your replies

They do come up relatively often, but given their prohib status, generally in those circles. I would also suggest looking in "Canadian Access to Firearms" newspaper. Lots of old timers selling prohibs there.

I do not know anyone who is selling in Northern hemisphere, I hang out on some Russian forums and hunters version (Tigr) do come up occasionally.

As far as a look a like clone, right now gunbroker has a few Yugo M76 for sale:

Among clones, it certainly is in the crowed of better ones.

They are prohibited, you need 12 (5) I believe. Even if you have that prohibited status on your license, you will not get an ATT to bring it to your range and shoot it.

Really ?
Is that a BC thing or a Canada thing??

So let's say I pick up a SVD (like being struck by lightning , that lucky) and I have a 12.5
they will let me have it but won't let me shoot it??
Noo way!

Anyone willing to put their 2 cents in , please?

Ok then , Sooo I'll get to shoot my .50 if I get one but not a 7.62x54r?

Curious of you replies

Yes. You had to have legally owned an AK variant prior to January 1, 1995 to have a 12.5 status on your PAL. If you don't have that, then it's no dice under current law. I haven't met too many 12.X owners that are unaware of the fact that the CFC doesn't issue ATTs for 12.X class firearms.

Ok,
Educating myself here
ATT = Authorized to Transport Permit?
And you cannot get a 12.5 transport permit to the range?
so all the people that own a 12.x (rifle, pistol ...) are not allowed to bring them to the local shooting club which they are members to shoot them?

Have you seen Berkut rifle, it is non restricted in Canada, sales for $1800.00. Like the gun but price is bit too high

I've seen it around but didn't get the chance to shoot it. I have shot a dragunov (or variant like 20years ago ) and remember that it was a great experience and I now would like to experience again. the downside is that not everyone has one . I think 3/4 of the fun is trying out new stuff , seeing if you like it and if you really do ..BUY IT! lol

It's just a bummer that most of the interesting stuff out there is already out of reach for most people .

So now I hunt down special pieces of history that are to me interesting (some brand new like a ...cx4 storm which I would rate a 7 out of 10 but is very accurate) to a ImI Timberwolf (I prefer .357 but would take a .44 if I found one) I'd say top of my list would be a Tavor for mainly the reason that I missed the Aug bandwagon years ago.

Btw do we have a section for a wish list or do we just go into the "black/green rifle" and ask for whatever we're looking for periodically ?

Assuming that you don't have a 12 (5), otherwise you would know, forget the original AK47, Dragunov etc. etc.
There is still a lot of nice stuff out there which is allowed, either restricted or not, but at a price:

Examples: Tavor, Swiss green and black, Robinson Arms XCR and others

Or, you go the way of building a look alike yourself, i.e. a Dragunov from a SVT-40, a AK 47 from a CZ-858 or SKS

or you are happy like most of us with the many aftermarket parts available, folding stocks and so.

No, it is not a BC thing, BC is much more easy going than let's say Quebec, oops.

I guess, you're right. But I'm not giving up (the hunt is half the fun, right).

So if anyone out there is tired of his Dragunov (or a variant of it) I will happily buy/trade it from you . Or take you out to for a steak supper (hopefully you don't live to far from me) just to have the chance to try it again. Damn addiction ...sigh

But you cannot buy one unless you have prohib status.

You had better get used to the idea that you aren't EVER getting your hands on a real Dragunov. Without 12(5) status which you clearly don't have, it would be ILLEGAL for someone to sell you such a rifle.

The dream is over son.

vezier sports or similar name from Quebec advertizes it for sale. The other factory in Tula, "the institute" I forgot the name has it in its web site as still being made, saw it yesterday. TOZ factory does not make it for sure now
