I had a call from a buddy who's asked me to keep an eye out for a Dragunov. Any of you good folks know if there's one looking for a home and how much a beast like that would cost? Let me know.

Thank you all gentlemen. Duh (on my part), I'd forgotten that under our idiotic system it's one of those "scary" rifles that we are far too civilized to see in private hands.

I think myself hollywood is responsible for hyping this one up a bit too much.
At best it's a designated marksman rifle. Not a sniper rifle IMO.

That's my impression fellas.

Now I'm curious, why do you say that?
And, by the way, it's not Hollywood who designated them as sniper rifles but the Eastern Block militaries.

Ho-hum accuracy and a scope with fussy eye relief. If you like it, then that's fine by me.
By and large most semi-auto rifles take a back seat to just about any decent bolt action rifle used by a major army for real sniping use.
And this is another one of them.

Myself, I am not a cheerleader for it.

To top this off the US Army training team that hosted this foreign weapons familiarization session stayed pretty mum on the subject until everyone present had a go with it.
Impressions were universally/thankfully disappointed with this, another piece of Soviet era Cold War junk.

I think it was designed to fight along side the inaccurate ak-47. I am pretty sure it was designed for 500 yards in an intense fire fight not some sneak in and take 1 shot rifle. It took the place of the SKS but more accurate. They were mass produced and many were used with the AK variant. Just like Canada issued an AR with a heavier barrel and given to selected troops that were better shots than the average canadian soldier.

I have one, moa accuracy if you can get the scope mount to keep its zero. Fun to have and not a rifle I'm in a rush to sell but not worth the hype in my opinion.

Nice. My friend in the USA let's me shoot his Romanian PSL, slightly different than the Dragunov from a design point, yet overtly still an AK Variant and a lot of fun to shoot!!! Though I get better results with his Aussie L1A1 with open sights since it has a new barrel.
