Dragunov style sks stocks

Hey there. I just came back from my local surplus store empty handed.

I was looking for a Dragunov style stock for my '51 Tula SKS. I heard Choate stocks are better, so I've held off on buying an ATI stock until I can figure out if you can even GET Choate stocks in Canada. Most online retailers won't even ship "gun parts" to Canada, so I feel like I'm SOL.

WHERE oh WHERE can I find a Choate Dragunov style stock for my SKS?

The one drawback of the Tapco is it's performance in cold weather. There are a few guys around my community that own them, as did I. We found that the socket that the "extension" tube plugs into, cracks in cold weather. It's because of this I myself have stayed away from buying another one. And my buddies have all since gone back to wood or monte carlo style stocks.

You should have ordered one of the Choate Dragunov stocks from sksman, he has a couple in stock from what I know when I called him last Thursday. And probably for less that what you paid for the Tapco with shipping.
 
I have a Tapco on one of my sks's right now. I don't like it at all, it feels "hollow", too light I guess and the butt plate is uncomfortable on the shoulder. Its a bad angle on the butt plate or something, and I don't like the "play" in the adjustable stock. I used to have a Drugonov on another sks. Didn't like it either. I've come to the conclusion (same as many other shooters have) that the only mod that should be mad to an sks is a 1 inch rubber butt pad...
 
i got the choate dragounov stock from Brownells. It's just under their $100 ship to canada limit. the fit was guttentite for my Norc sks.

inexplicably the choate stock is not relieved for the choate scope mount. a wood rasp made a neat job of it though.
 
I have the ATI and have had no issues with it - put lots of rounds downrange and the only thing I regret that I didnt mod on it was cutting the back "hump" off of it to make cleaning / take down easier.

Other than that - we (my daughter - pic is several years old) have enjoyed shooting it!

I don't know if ati makes a model with a bayo slot or not. My ati dragonov stock doesn't have a slot for the bayonet. I'm only guessing that they are all like that.
 
The ATI i snot bad but i got tired of the plastic stocks and went wood, here is mine almost done and ready to oil up and shoot, yes the rusty pieces have been replaced now and the gun is almost rebult fully.

Drewz you can have the whole rifle park from Murdoc or I would get the blue'ing kit and re-blue the rifle. As for that wood it's crying out for some Varithane ;)

Thnaks, I like the Dragunov styled stocks but just got tired quick of the thin and flimsy feel. There is nothing like the feel and look of wood in my opinion. I will have to PM Murdoc about a price. Thanks for the tip!!!
