I just received 2 nice stripped Breda Garand receivers. I would like to turn them into a couple of nice shooting rifles. Do all the U.S. made Garand parts fit this receiver? I have been told I have to follow certain drawing numbers to make sure the parts fit? I understand that the Breda and Beretta garands were made using one of the last post-war updated drawings. The number that is commom on both the receivers is D.6528291. Can someone help me clear this up.

And if anyone knows any decent Garand sites that I can learn more on building these rifles that would be great..

Italian Garands.

The Breda and Beretta receivers, as well as all other Breda and Beretta made parts are entirely interchangable with the US GI M1 Garands. The Italian production was of high quality and the receivers provide an excellent basis to build a quality rifle. There are 2 comprehensive reference books which will instruct you on how to build and maintain an M1 rifle. The first is "The U.S. .30 caliber Gas Operated Service Rifles,A Shop maunual" by Jerry Kuhnhausen. The other is "The M1 Garand Complete Assembly Guide" by Walt Kulek. In addition to the manuals you will also require an action wrench, barrel vice, set of headspace gauges, and a barrel alignment fixture to ensure that the barrel is correctly indexed with the receiver.

Where do you buy all the parts for a project like this?
Sounds like fun!

It's likely that parts will need to be sourced from various vendors.

Good start is TradeEx (CGN Sponser)
Bolts, internals, smaller bits all priced well.

Districorp - Trigger groups, bolts and smaller bits

Barrels - good luck on that one. Some can be found on the EE here from time to time. I believe that a few vendors still have the "Tradeex" imported .308 barrels in stock (Epps for one)

Op rods? You may wish to check with Gunbroker.

Good luck. Lots of help/advice is available here

OneBarfly, ditto for you too. I have been trying to figure out all the parts I will need. I will probably just buy a new barrel and have it installed at Epps. If the parts are a bit shabby I will re-Parkerize everthing myself before I put everthing into new wood. I wont get bent if the gun didnt see action in WW2.
