Gentlemen,
The Topic speaks for itself. These are for taking a 5 rd stripper clip and then loading it into a M1 Garand Clip. Mr. John C. Garand had put in for a Patent Office on Aug. 3, 1942. If you wish email me and I can post more.
I hope you find these data of interest.

Without input from you guys no one learns anything Try to put in some info/question and we can learn more of the M1's History

Interesting, I thought they may have had something like this, as I could only imagine having to do this by hand would have been tedious.

Maybe for just in case, I mean most pre-WW2 stores of 30-06 ammo was ether linked for the machine guns or on 5 round stripper clips, if the war dragged on I'd imagine these would have been used. :)

I always figured the M1903 rifles were using old stock of ammo not anything newly made but Clancy's files proved that other wise but that can be because they were simply replacing the stores that were being used up by the use of the M1903 rifles. :)

I read a description how 8-shot Garand clips were made. Very complicated stamping and tuning to get stiff sheet metal bent on three-axes and in on itself in places. Clancy, got anything?

Maple Leaf,

Stampings are not generally stamped in more then one axies (Z or Up and down), if my memory serves from the last time I saw the scrap strip Clancy posted of the operations it is not stamped in all 3 axis (well a stamping can only be stamped on 2 axis, Z and X, and Y is the movement of the strip no stamping done on it) and infact just stamped and restamped to get the shape from the Z axis. But my memory is fady I'd need to see the strip agian. :)

Rob,

Yes they were throw aways but I'm sure they were refilled a few times in battle with a enemy in different wars it served in, when the enemy was all around you and all you had left was machine gun ammo, your going to do what you got to do. :)
