If we could get the best candidates to run for the Board.
Who would you want on that Board?

My PICS

Kent H =Training & Black Badge
John E (Storm) = Promotion of the sport
Phil C = Stats
Dave H= Job he resigned from
Darryl B= Communications
Craig S= Consultant

Any thoughts. We need the right people on this Board. Lets try to recruit them.

All good thoughts and good choices, but we don't elect people to a specific job.

I suspect a lot of good people are are thinking about running, or running away.

I hope this unpleasantness doesn't scare away talented people from tossing thier hats into the ring.

i am going to stick my neck waaaaaaayyyy out her and say why not? if you do not have a Constitution then you can do basically anything you want. perhaps it is time to look at a change to get back on track. my $0.02 about a problem that i can only watch from the sidelines.

Forgive me for saying this. I am relativley new to IPSC and have met very few of you.

Some one should explain all of this to IPSC Ontario members who wish to know about it. This is not fair that some of you know and others do not.
PM's are a good way of telling the story. Facts only. That way people can decide wether or not they still want to join next year.

I have no intention on spending another $70 next year if I don't get an explanation as to what is going on. I have USPSA membership and live in St. Catharines so shooting there is a no brainer.

It's funny you put yourself on the board. One who takes others off a match in Barrie do we trust you? How do we know you wont take us out of ipsc. I think it is good to have a lady on the board also. Not that I am voluteering but it does help.

Fail.

John E mentioned in the OP is Stormbringer.
AFAIK, the OP isn't running the club's involvement with 3w.ipsc-matches.net.

Leading a volunteer organization is a very difficult job. You have all the responsibility, all the accountability, but no authority to make anyone do anything. Couple that with more armchair quarterbacks (critics) than you thought possible, and you’ve just signed up for the challenge of your life. I don’t recall seeing a long line of volunteers willing to take it on.

This is a new board and although they are haemorrhaging badly right now and may indeed fail, they were elected by a majority of the membership and they deserve (and are entitled to) the chance to fix it. I find it highly disrespectful to be fantasizing about a “dream team” in a public forum. For those of who think they can do it better, throw your hat in the ring but do it properly - I’m sure there will be openings at the next election.

Are you part of the problem, or part of the solution?

Respectfully

I am sorry but if I tried to kick you out of IPSC because I am the Ont. President, I think you would see it a little differently.

I am no longer the Rep. Resigned April 1. I am a shooter now.
I have never taken anyone out when I ran the matches.
Infact I always over booked and had squads of 14 or 15.
Wrong Guy.

John, the events of the last couple of weeks would make anyone sore and although I don’t know all the details, it’s clear that you have every right to feel the way you do. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. My opinion however is we must have order. You may not respect the person but you must respect the office. If change is necessary and beneficial, people of good conscience will find a way to influence it in a positive way. When this passes, IPSC will need it’s experienced people to carry on.

Being part of the problem or part of the solution is a personal choice. Which way will you go?

Okay, now I may agree with you.
I just do not think the person who is in office has a conscience.
Your right, I must stop it now.
Thank you for your insight.

BTW:

The "current" constitution says that officers (with specific jobs) don't have to be board members.. There is a vast skill set (and eagerness if handled properly..) to do these jobs, but it would seem that only the BOD are given the jobs..

Thanks Mike That was well put. I have been in Ipsc just over 2 years but before I even got my BB I was voluteering and helping out. You certainly said that eloquently. We dont give people on the board enough help or credit for what they do. I see alot of people grumbling but are they helping not only at there own matches that they put on but others. Some do but alot of those complaining dont. We voted for the board for a reason as we trusted they would carry us for the next year or two. We all need to grow up and stop acting like children. Sure I would love to help but to be on the board that is not a position I would even consider but ask me for help I am there,

Caroline

AS noted by a previous post, serving a volunteer organization is a thankless job. That includes ALL those who volunteer, from the board all teh way down to the patchers and stage designers/constructors/de-cpnstructors. Everyone plays a part, and every part in critical to the sucess of the whole.
Sometimes things happen which cause those who vounteer to re-assess the time they give. This is a healthy occurance. The opposite, where a volunteer develops the attitude that they are "entitled" becuase they volunteer, is dangerously toxic to the organization. This is where thoughful consideration needs to be applied by those duly elected stewards of the organization. It may require them to act, and do something distasteful. Surely, some members will always disagree. That is the reality of a democracy. The elected individuals must be held accountable by the members.
How? Get involved , vote, volunteer, offer ideas. When you vote, don't vote for you buddy 'cause he's your buddy, vote for the candidates who are committed and who have the ideas you believe in for the organization.

If you're not prepared to be part of the solution by stepping up, then you have no right to criticize those who do.

Key priorities that OUR organization needs to address now are:
1) Legitimizing it by incorporation, which then protects the organization from rogue elements, and also requires legal legitimacy.
2) Creating the constitution and by-laws that will govern the organization. To be created by the members for the members. So that everyone knows the rules and can follow them.

Without these two fundamental foundations, the stability of the organization is at risk.

Elected individuals will come and go, the organization must transcend them.

I like this post. I agree. Not even my province, but I think we should be thankfull for volunteers in our sport, and do our part.

looking for a solution is very difficult howevr given time things will fall into place. IPSC ontario is and always should be for the members, I realize it is a volunteer position and sould be taken as such, all organizations must have structure in order forr them to run properly but the leaders MUST remember they are volunteers and conduct themselves accordingly and always act for the betterment of the sport and its members. Sometimes a chang is not only good but necessary as long as it has its members best interests in mind
