Dreaming of a s&w 5946

Here's a target of what the 5946 is capable of when I did my part:
course of fire. Score: 250(40x)
I had to take a photo because I was likely to never repeat it!

That being said, the DAO trigger is very likely to cause a slight flinch on quick follow up shots, which has been the frustration of many who have shot this pistol. It could cause a flier out of the scoring ring, or just missing an "x" if that's what one aspires to.

If time is not an issue, I would take a double action in a long range accuracy shoot as I find it to be very predictable in when the trigger breaks.

Most folks would believe that hardcore look on the faces of our beloved mounties is one of grit, determination, and a constant state of alert readiness. Nope, it's the torment of carrying that beast of pistol along with two extra double-stacked mags, and the constant ache of an index finger that's been crippled by a 12.5 lb DAO trigger.

That said, I have fond memories of being at the range with my dad putting rounds in the 8 ring with this pistol. I wouldn't buy one for anything other than nostalgia though.

One of the first guns I bought when I moved to America. What an awful hunk of heavy uncomfortable ####.

Nice shooting.

Public agency firearms in Canada can not be re-sold for private use.

I have a Beretta 96D, and the serial # shows as "Vancouver PD"....Van, BC, or Wash, I don't know.

The 5946 couldn't be sold anyway, its prohib, and probably not grandfathered for us. Plus, they'd be beat to shyt.

I carried the RCMP "Duty" version for many many years. I don't want to discourage you as I sometimes have a desire for things others don't like,..but they aren't that fantastic. Now my M&P 9mm on the other hand,..well NOW we are talking!!!

Yep, wish I could pack my M&P on duty instead. I am sure someone would notice though......

Still, you're going to be buying it down there IN BRUTAL US$, paying a gunsmith to re barrel, then paying a $200 import fee to Prophet River or IRG... You'd have to REALLY want it!

Exactly!!!! U would easily be over a grand for a 400$ USD pistol

OP,

I have sent you a couple PMs regarding the gunsmith you are using and have not heard back from you. Can you forward me the name as I need to get a barrel made for my S&W 5906.

Thanks

I have a 6946 and I love it, but don't shoot it much. I had the DAO version (6906) and sold that one. This more compact size fits my hands perfect.

I would bet the farm that IF they ever sold surplus RCMP 5946's with the logos and all, they would fly off the shelves, no matter what condition. This will never happen, tho, sadly.
