drg cast .308 165 gr fp

good day everyone:
i picked up some drg 165 gr .308 lead bullets to reload in my old .30 rem.
can anyone tell me about these projectiles,how fast can i safely push these bullets,as they dont have a gascheck.
i've looked everywhere and can't find any info on these bullets.
any help is greatly appreciated.

Z; These bullets will be happiest below 1500 fps.
Are they well lubed?
Lube is important.
Best to use a light load of a bit faster powder for cast as well.
If you want a very mild mannered load, try Trail Boss Powder.
Just fill that 30 Rem case to the mouth, seat a bullet and shoot away.
About 1000 - 1100 fps. Eagleye.
 
What gun are you reloading for bolt ??
do not think about using these in a semi, you will never get to the point of working the action with out a gas check and having leading problems

Have you done any cast reloading before?
Do you have anything to flair the mouth of the case ?
usally cast rifle rounds use a gas check

the only powder I would try (with out a gas check) is
unique and trail boss

They are for a bolt action 700.

My cast reloading has been with pistols in 45acp, 9mm and I have developed a couple of reduced loads with Trailboss for my 308 that I use for small game when I'm out Moose Hunting.

Looking for some more options with cast loads that I can push a little faster and keep the same bullet weight as my hunting bullets.
The DRG's are alot less expensive than the cast gas checked bullets I'm buying to make up small game loads.

I have the Lee case expanding die as well.

30 rem is one or those old calibers that should have done better that it did

to the posters that said get a reloading book and read it

Speer # 11 has --- "0" data for the 30 rem

Lyman Cast book # 4 --- has "0" data for the 30 rem
 
I have had good luck sizing those bullets to .001 over the gun's land to land measurement and then paper patching them to .001 over groove diameter.

If you do that, you can shoot them at copper jacketed velocities without need of a gas check or lube.

The only tough part is getting the special sizing die made. Have any machinist friends?
