Has anyone drilled and tapped a lakefield MK II for a second action screw? Can you tell me what pitch you went to and where you found a standoff or fasteners to do this?

In comparison to the savage MK the lakefield only has a front action screw, the savage uses a second standoff (male bolt with a female nut head to attach the action screw, this piece fastens the trigger assembly to the rifle and allows a mounting point for the action screw)

In comparison to a friends savage, the screw hole is smaller on the lakefield, and apparently they made their own random proprietary thread size and pitch, so I've read that folks will tap it and use a fastener called a standoff.

Anyone know more on this?

You may not have to modify your rifle. Been a while since I looked at Boyds stocks, but they used to provide specs for both old MkII, and newer MkII (w/accu-trigger). Bottom metal might be different (memory isn't reliable), and you'd use only the one(forward) takedown stud.

Hey, with just the front bolt fastened you can squeeze the barrel and fore stock between your thumb and index finger and the barrel will pull down easily, I think part of the original stock design prevented this, but with the SS evolution stock it doesn't have enough support.

I went to home depot on the way home and grabbed a bunch of different sizes of hardware, a 5mm bolt actually fit the thread fairly well, It started to get a bit snug after three revolutions in, but the bolt will only go 4 or 5 before it protrudes into the action and presses against the bolt anyway. Tomorrow I will try and source a 5mm stand off and some hardware, though it will likely be ordered over the net, I'll post my findings though.

As for the bottom metal pretty much none of it is interchangeable, the metal for the mag is about half as long as it should be, and the trigger guard is completely different, I've already made some pieces to fit in place out of aluminum though.
