I was shooting with BMcRae at the New York State shoot in Rochester on the weekend and got nailed in the forehead with with a pellet off a six low. I was next in line to shoot when I got hit. That was Saturday. It bled for a while and was sore all week. Thursday night out popped the pellet with a little pressure. It's left a little divot in my forehead.

I thought I felt the pellet hit the bone but couldn't find bulging around the skin so I assumed it just cut me and bounced away. Not until I saw a black scab Thursday night did I know something was up. It struck just above the nose piece on the glasses and below the brim of my ball cap.

I've been hit as far back as 40 yrds watching shoot offs. Wear safety glasses anywhere around the field.

It was the shooter on 6. A single pellet spun around the rim of the target and came back.

I got hit by the same shooter on the very next station, but much less seriously.

I usually get hit 5-6 times a year. Usually it stings for a few minutes and leaves a welt. This was the worst one I've seen. If it was to hit someone in the eye without glasses, it would most likely have resulted in eye loss.

Wear your glasses when shooting, or when anywhere near shooting. I was hit in the cheek 3 weeks ago while sitting on the tailgate of my truck probably 15 yards behind the field.

Brad.

Ouch!
Glad to hear your OK mvmham. If it's any consolation, some cultures paint dots on there forehead, as beauty marks.

I don't want to make lite of it, but did the shooter score a visable piece or were you two the only score. I've drawn blood not watching broken peices and been sprayed a bit from a couple fields away, but touch wood, not from what I thought was the safest spot on the field. Its a good reminder to insist that everyone wear hats and safety glasses. Thanks.

It was a dead bird. Usually a shot mostly in front, or mostly behind - resulting in a small piece off which ever side - leaves a lot of rim of the bird to flip a pellet (or many) around.

A 'smoked' target probably wouldn't leave anything to spin the pellet backwards. Maybe we just need to squad with better shooters...:D

Well, this is good to know. I often get my wife to pull targets, and since some of the guys I shoot with do not smoke em all ;), I will insist that she wear glasses and hat, even on the days when she is not having a bad hair day:evil:

Like you I have been "beaned" several times.
Intererstingley enough, the last time it happened, I had just give a rash of crap to a non member at our club about not wearing proper safety gear. ( no glasses). next shot..... ouch!!!!! Right between the eyes.
I am a true believer in your commentary about wearing the proper safety gear.
You never said how you finished in Rochester.
Well??????

Mwmham, I am relieved that your injury was not more serious, but it is never pleasant to take pellets. Ouch!

This whole thread is just more evidence to support my theory that all skeet shooters are lunatics.

Sharptail

The odd #9 flying where it is not supposed to be is needed to break the monotony of breaking target after target. I am convinced that skeet targets are not difficult to hit especially the easy ones and the other ones which are even easier. What is difficult is the mind set or dicipline to hit those easy and easier targets over and over and over and over again til you outlast the other guys who are hitting those easy and easier targets over and over and over again. Sharptail you are right! Lunatics is the correct word.

Crap, I never thought of that. I've only been rained on by broken clay pieces on an extremely windy day, never beaned by a pellet.
