Drinking at hunt camp

A lot of the guys I go hunting with are older and like to drink. Sometimes they start drinking early morning or afternoon when we are out hunting. I have never really seen it get out of control but there is a lot of alcohol consumed during the hunting trip. I know some people do not like this what do you think about hunting and drinking at camp.

Years ago hunting trips where huge drunk fests I think things have changed but still happens.

I quit hunting with a group due to excessive drinking... my time is precious and I am in the bush to "hunt" not to act like a moronic teenager. Having a beer or glass of wine with dinner or Bailey's in your morning coffee is one thing, but these guys would bring a case of beer and a 40 pounder, per man, per day... that is ridiculous... half the group wouldn't go out hunting until noon, the other half should have just stayed in camp anyway. I ended up shooting most of the deer, I also dressed and hauled out those deer without help from the camp... on day four, I loaded up my gear and a fat little eight pointer and headed home... never went back. Keep getting invited back every year and turn down the invitation every year.

on my camps its ok to have one in the midday at lunch, an then not until the hunt is over in the evening... then as many as you wish until you go to bed. generally the blokes are older than me by some years but still under 45, an not piss heads either.

everyone is up at the crack of dawn, if not earlier... im always the last up..but takes me 0 time to gear up an go.

I wouldn't tolerate if the lads started drinking in the morning, or consumed more than 1 in the midday lunch

time for a new hunting camp.

I used to hunt with a drunk. He was next to useless as a hunter, but he was the property owner so we tolerated him. The rest of us killed most of the game and if he was sober enough, he'd help haul them out and hang them. Now I hunt with my best bud who owns some nice property and it's a gathering of good friends, a lovely social and bonding time, and if the fates allow, meat on the table. Nobody gets drunk! We'll have a few beer after dinner and maybe a little burst of nice scotch, but that's it. Drinking doesn't happen until the hunt is done for the day. Personally, I'll never again hunt with a drunk.

No drinks till your rifle/shotgun is away for the day where I'm going. Wouldn't want it any other way. Stay back and drink all you want when your up at the camp but leave your gun on the rack and stay at the camp once you've cracked a bottle. No exceptions no accidents from nonsense.

Zero tolerance here for intoxicants and firearms. I have respect for the hunt and will not allow anyone to endanger me or others. After the guns are hung up for the day, go ahead.

Outside of the obvious Number 1 safety issues with firearms I never understood the idea of more than one or two drinks at any time.

There is a bit of socialization and relaxation at that point.

There is no fun in it after that and it becomes counteproductive, just costs money and is asking for trouble, misunderstandings and hurt feelings and physical discomfort the
morning after.

Always gets less fun and stupid every time when it happens.

Not sure what would happen if somebody brought a guy with some kind of 'legalized' drug habit from Lil Trud's pusher friends other than they better have other plans that weekend.

During deer week down here we dedicate one night of the week to tie one on. We usually invite a few local guys to come have a beer and pizza. But other then that just a few beers after dark or while hanging deer.

Some real hunt nazi's here. lol I bet you guys are the ones in the fast lane driving 100 also because thats the limit and nobody should go faster!

Drinking while hunting is never good, though a beer with lunch is OK with me. If you drink enough to become even slightly impaired your putting other peoples lives on the line. My buddy and I took a couple guys from his work to our area and at noon they started guzzling a bottle of rotgut whiskey so I told them to head north and we're going south, I regret that I didn't call TIPS on them as I should have.

Usually Baileys or Kalua in the morning coffee, then one or two at lunch (we take a 2 hour break between morning and afternoon)..... Once the guns are away for the evening the beers start flowing, but we all do a really good job of not going too far and making sure we are in tip top shape for the next day's hunt.....

Unfortunately had to boot one fella from camp, as he thought taking a six pack out to his evening watch was a good idea..... There was a negligent discharge involved and he is lucky he didn't shoot himself.....

Glad that most posters here have the common sense not to mix guns, hunting and alcohol at the same time.
Alcohol definitely has a place in a hunting camp. A lot of good memories are made over an open fire and clear night skies. But when the liquor flows, the guns are gone.

My childhood memories are my dad and his drunk friends at hunt camp.........gambling talking trash and fighting . I shot my first deer by myself as a kid .Your Dad should have been there for the memory but he was too hungover to hunt so he resumed drinking. Most of these guys just wanted a week away from their wives.I learned everything I know about the outdoors on my own as it was preferable to being home.I made sure when my boys came of age I was there to see their first deer drop and encourage them.Either way fathers are an example of what to be or not to be........be a good role model your kids are watching and learning.....Harold

Really? You wouldn't happen to be the piss tank type we're talking about, would you?

I don't really drink so no, I am not one of those drunks who ruin it for everybody. I am not suggesting people drink and go hunting but generally, they go hand in hand. Comments like "if I even smell booze" or "1 drink for lunch" etc make me wonder if they sit there babysitting their friends.
