Hello!

I'm curious if any CGNers have any idea where to get preferably a surplus 1911 barrel in 45 or a new production that isn't a 300 dollar match grade barrel?

Just looking to swap up calibres for fun

Thanks

A wonderful change. All it needs is a new barrel and spring(stiffer).

Lots of power. makes the 10mm seem like a plinker. Not 44 Mag power, but getting close. 230gr at 1300 - 1350 fps

It comes with a comp, so the recoil is not bad. I enjoy shooting it.

Nice thing is that regular 45 ACP can be shot it it, but slide has to be run manually.

When I bough the kit, I also bought 200 piece of the special brass (Starline) Still have most of them. They are a bit longer, so they won't fit a regular 45ACP.

Some of us have converted our Norinco 45s to 460Rowland.

Ooooh lovely. Might even have a donor gun for such a project. I see a lovely article on the conversion at Brownell's but they don't have the actual kit. Does anyone carry it in Canada?

That is a great idea. I might look into a norinco to do something like that with.

Clarks seems to not like or ship to Canadians, so I suppose now I'm obliged to return the sentiment. Sorry, guys.

I ordered mine from 460Rowland.com, they didn't have an issue shipping to Canada then, but that was probably 6 years ago. Good luck, it's pretty cool to shoot.

The other Norinco 1911 I converted with a drop in barrel was a 9mm chge to 7.62x25. I had to buy a 38Super magazine. It shoots very well.

Is the 460 ammo load fine in the standard 45 mags, I am thinking the bullet would have to be set back as the case is longer. Not something I have had a chance to play with.
Re shipping out of US, I wonder if a licenced gunsmith ordered ,it may help.

If/when you make the 455 to 45 conversion can you compare the spring weights? I'm curious what the spring weight should be for 455.

Obviously this is your gun and you can do what you want, but the 455 1911 is pretty rare and valuable... why make the change? I'm tempted to make the same change for the fun of it but so far I'm managing to resist :)

Ganderite:

That 7.62x25 conversion... Do I see correctly and you make your own ammo with the bullet seated deeper? If not, do commercial rounds really work? Other people have reported that these conversions don't work well unless you seat the bullet deeper than spec...

I was lucky enough to pick up one of the RAF contract Government models for a fairly cheap price because the bushing and slide stop were missing so it isn't in complete original shape to begin with. I'd rather have some fun shooting the .45 then try to source original parts and ammo for the .455 for collector value.

Ah, sounds perfectly reasonable. Quite a number of them are missing the original barrels anyway, I hear. Still have the original spring though? Please compare with one for 45 when you have a chance, I'm told the ones for 455 are lighter but no one is sure how much...

The ammo has to be loaded to the OAL of a 38 Super. Bullet seated deeper.

I have a case of 7.62 loaded with brass cases and lead core bullets. It is not as hot as some flavours. I seat the bullet a bit deeper and presure seems ok.
