Hello boys and girls. I have started a budget build for my silhouette rig and want to put a heavier than the stock sporter barrel offered on the diner platform. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the drop in examples offered from the different manufactures. I've been doing some research but would like to clarify if there are any major differences between them besides price and contours. Basically what have you found for fit and finish as well as customer service.
Thanks.

For speed I would get a match barrel blank and have it chambered and threaded for your savage. It will cost a little more but you have greater choice on the barrel manufacturer and you won't have to wait 3 months for a shilen.

PM. Juanvaldez. He seems to regularly have barrels and could do the smithing also. There are others that regualrly advertise blanks in the EE also.

For a Savage there are drop in barrels available from a number of manufacturers ie Shilen and McGowan. They come chambered in the calibre of your choice and threaded for the Savage action. MysticPrecision an advertiser with a link at the top of this page was very knowledgeable and helpful when I was putting a new barrel on my Savage 243.

Thanks
I guess I should clear up the question a bit. I'm wondering if anyone has used a drop in barrel from any of them and who would they recommend based on the questions from the original post. I'm fairly farmiliar with what's available from the different manufacturers I'm just not sure which one to choose. It's a lot of money to drop on a hunch.

The last few McGowan barrels I have received have been real nice and they seem to shoot a little better than the shilens I have had. One tip for you is to check on the throat of their reamer before buying.

On my tip. Make sure the throat is not to long for the bullets you want to shoot. They sometimes use long throated reamers in the slower twist barrels knowing damn well you want to shoot light, short bullets.

Ok I'm Picking up what your saying. i guess that should be mentioned when ordering
Thanks 6MM Shooter. It would kill me if i ordered a barrel and could'nt shoot what i needed it to shoot.
