Dropping the slide on a Glock

Glock...no problem. If you were to do it with one of my 1911's, it would be the last time you could even touch them. It's kind of like slamming the cylinder on a revolver open and closed (mass+inertia+the sudden stop=battered metal)
I don't do it with my own Glock but when someone does it I don't get too upset, I just correct their approach to hand guns (Hollywood this ain't:p).

Sorry new to pistols. What exactly is dropping the slide?

Releasing the slide lock catch when slide is all the way back or pulling slightly back on the slide and then releasing it, allowing the cartridge to be chambered if the magazine has any ammo in it.
If no ammo in mag, slide strikes an empty chamber.

it probably wont hurt it.
Bad form to do it to someone else's gun.

man i just thought about that.. and when i see people doing it, specially to my hardware, turns me inside out..

Wonder if there is a list of bad form gun etiquette..

Stupid question.. of course there is:

Handle the guns of others with care and respect. When dealing with other people's guns:

Don’t let the slide or action slam forward in Automatic Pistols. (unless loading the chamber to shoot
Don’t let the hammer fall uncontrolled.
Don’t fling or slam the cylinder shut on Revolvers.
Don’t let the bolt slam forward in Semi-Automatic Rifles and Shotguns. (unless loading the chamber to shoot)
Don’t quickly and forcefully close the bolt on bolt action Rifles, Lever action Rifles and pump action Shotguns and Rifles.
Close break action Shotguns, Rifles, and Pistols with care.

A pistol you couldn't drop the slide on if you wanted to is not a pistol I would care to own. Not saying it's a good thing but it's also a good way to practice certain manoeuvers like a dry reload before dry firing.
