So I was out on a quest to get more rail space on the 930, lets face it, there just isn't enough of it on the 930 to begin with.

Maybe I went a little overboard, maybe it's a bit much but when in the dark recesses of my mind, there is this low raspy voice constantly shouting "MOOOORE" and "POOWERRRRRR" "RAAAAARRRR!" I usually succumb to it's will... (complete parts listing at bottom of post)

It's tiny bit heavier than the stock plastic forend, but not horribly so. No more than say, a benelli M4 with all the rails and trimmings.

On a side note, I decided to get the new improved bolt handle (right) from S&J Hardware and I am glad I did, not only is it EASIER to operate that the Gen 1 (left) it has less tendency to chew up the hand during fast manipulations, over/under hand techniques and hand "chopping" the bolt handle.

Overall, I am quite happy with it and I think I can close the "need for more parts" on this firearm for the time being. All I need now is some range time!

Special thanks to Simon from S&J Hardware for GREATLY helping me with this project. Without his support and technical knowledge, this would not have been possible :)

Shotgun Configuration:
-Base gun: Mossberg 930 SPX
-USGI M7 Bayonet
-S&J Hardware 4 and 7 shot D.S.C. carriers
-S&J Hardware +2 extentension kit properly plugged to 5 rounds
-S&J Hardware Railed barrel clamp
-S&J Hardware Bayonet mount (1/2 mount as the full one will not fit)
-S&J Hardware Jumbo charging handle Gen 2
-S&J Hardware Jumbo safety
-S&J Hardware "mossberg 12 ga" no jam delrin follower
-S&J Hardware 930 railed forend
-S&J Hardware 930 railed upper heat sheild
-Itac Defense red dot sight (co-witnesses perfectly with irons)
-First Samco flashlight rail mount
-Fenix TK10 light

Not to rain on anyone's parade or throw a turd into the punchbowl, but how truly practical is something like this??? It appears that what started off as a light, fairly nimble and handy defensive tool has been turned into a bit of a boat anchor.

The T1 behind the GRS occludes more of the peripheral vision than is probably desirable and there appears to be a significant amount of accessorization "just because" - whatever blows up your skirt I guess, but to define it as "tactical" just because it's covered in rails seems a bit mis-leading...

blake

surprised you dont have a pistol grip yet

There is only one pistol grip available, the one made by Choate and it's kinda of nerdy looking because there is a gap between the grip and trigger guard.

Besides, I like the traditional style stock better. I always envision myself b*tchslapping a zombie with the buttstock like this:

Only to the face. It's easier to do with a traditional buttstock.

Thats totally freakin hot .. does the upper rail line up with the standard handguard as well ?

Thanks!

Yes it does, it doesn't attach to the lower rail, but there is an "adapter plate" on the front where it fits into, then you screw your end cap on. the rear of the rail bolts into the stock location where the factory installed rail should be.

It should fit overtop of the factory handguard without a problem.

i was gonna go with the railed forend only but i have a penchant for scout mounting red dots...

Nothing wrong with that.

I have pretty poor vision as it is, so I try to use optics and red dots when I can.

Not at all, I do have a tendency to go overboard sometimes hence the thread title "TactiKool-Aid" not "Tactical" I would NEVER call myself "Tactical" or "Practical" but I sure as heck know what I like.

I don't take myself or this finished product too seriously. The beauty of it all is that each piece works with the factory components allowing all kinds of goofy configurations. So if something doesn't work, I can swap it out.

But rails Blake, rails blow up my skirt :)

Despite what it looks like, it's actually not that front heavy (if you minus the light and bayonet) with the elastic shell carriers on the stock and receiver, it's only slightly heavier than what it was to begin with (and I really wanted an AFG on the front)

The red dot co-witneses perfectly with the irons, but I guess your point of it obscuring peripheral makes alot of sense. I could move it up the rail, I've just seen alot of people mounting them before the rear sight <shrug> I need some trigger time to fine tune the setup somewhat.

I have actually burned my hand after a long stage on the barrel, so a heat shield was definitely warranted. It just so happens this one is a rail as well so I put the call in for one.

I think it is ugly as sin. But if I had some spare cash laying around, I might be tempted to build one.

Lovin' the bayonet.

I too think it was clobbered by every ugly stick falling down a tree'd mountain... But I also think Bulldogs are cute heck so that says everything :D

What is that wedge/pyramid shaped grip on the bottom of the forend? I've been seeing them around on a lot of AR's

well that settles it.. an SJ railed heatshield for christmas.. a present from me to me :D

I whipped it out for some more pics for you, it doesn't actually touch the railed forend so it *should* work with the factory forend as well.

If you want one, talk to Simon fast, he has a very limited number available!.

If you like, when I have more time tonight or tomorrow, I can fit the factory forend on and take some pics for you.

Magpul's AFG (angled Fore Grip) and provides a very comfortable "thumb forward grip" I really like them and have one on my Carbine as well.

If you could that would be much appreciated, PM me if you want . I can order the stuff from Simon at any point, but i have a feeling that if i get it shipped before Xmas it will be fruitless due to international shipping overload ( thanks Christmas.. you C*** :D )

No issues whatsoever. The factory forend fits just inside the railed heat sheild (I may get my machinist friend to cut some functional vents later on)

It's actually pretty cool setup like this too. Man, I need to get some trigger time on this. I think I need to trim the underside of the forend to help clear the loading port for fast reloads. It tends to bump the knuckles abit.

And yes, Christmas time is a C***! :)

I have never seen an instructor/operator/whoever run their optic that way, ever.

I must be thinking of these guys then:

Dot sight behind the optic or irons. I dunno, if it works for them, they must be doing something right

as if i wasnt excited enough already.. am now jumping around flailing my arms like an excited child ( seen the nintendo 64 kid? ) 'SJ railed heatSHIELDDDDDD'

Really sorry to do that to you mate :)

Speed Beads are behind the irons.

Anyway, I sincerely thought I was in the Battle Rifle part and the first pics I thought I was looking at a SOCOM.
