dry fire a ruger 22/45?

is it alright to dry fire a ruger 22/45?
im curious because i know you can with the newer 10/22s, and my 22/45 just came in the mail, so i want to know if i can dry fire.

The Ruger semi-auto .22 has a firing pin stop pin throught the bolt to stop the firing pin from striking the chamber edge when dry firing.
Occasasional use, as in dropping the hammer to remove the receiver, probably won't hurt anything.
But, repeated dry firing without a "snapcap" or a dummy round could peen out the slot in the firing pin and/or the stop pin itself, allowing the firing pin to hit the chamber edge.
Use a "snap-cap" or fired case,and rotate either while dry firing to make sure you are not punching through the same spot on the case rim and letting the pin hit the chamber edge.

im not planing to dry fire extensivly, but mostly to drop the hammer for storage and to get a feel for the trigger before i take it to teh range tomorow.

I'll point out that you need to dry fire it to take it apart... so... yeah, it's coo~ :)

I just got one too and it's awesome (mine was shooting left but I made some adjustments and can hardly wait to hit the range this weekend - Awesome cheap fun!!)
 
i bought a used older one, so it has the oldschool grips, but its a load of fun. put 500 rnds though it. only jamed up a few times, and thats probably cause i was using the cheapest ammo i can find. (i have the same problem with my 10/22, so i wasnt to worreid)
