dry firing ruger 10/22

hello, i have got a new ruger and i find my self more often then not shooting it when all the ammo is spent, its hard to keep track of ten , is this a problem , i mean on average if i shoot 30 mags through it and dry fire it 30 plus times each time i go out how long before i damage or wear parts and what should i look for in terms of internal parts and damage , thanks im sure its been covered before so thanks again

In general, you probably shouldn't dry fire 10/22, but I experience this same thing all the time.

I really wish the 10/22 had a last shot bolt hold open feature, but it doesn't. I figure it would take some time for any damage to occur though.

There are some pretty old 10/22's out there still functioning. I don't think its a problem. The factory probably realized it would happen every 10 shots.

You can get a hold open conversion, that uses modified mags.

probably more than 10,000 rounds would be required to do any damage, and it would most certainly be to the firing pin I think. I am no expert here though, I am really just speculating.

I wouldn't get too concerned about it. If you want it to happen less, just get a couple of high cap magazines.

It is fine to dry fire the 10/22. In fact, the manual recommends it for trigger practice. Some other rimfires should not be dry fired, but the 10/22 is fine.

No it doesn't.

The 10/22 and, as far as I know, all ruger rimfires have firing pin stops which prevent them from contacting the chamber.

Read your owner's manual it states this as well.

I've heard that to make it dry fire safe was cheaper for Ruger than a bolt hold open, thus it is what it is

I've seen one that had the bolt hold open at the range, seemed like more work than I like to do, installing such a thing and modifying mags and all.
