Just for the sake of discussion, does anyone think that these might become available again in Cdn. I know that R Nicholls imports them for LE.

Gentlemen
This might sound naive, but do think there is a hope in hell that the Conservatives might relax the law on Prohibs? I don't think it will happen but I have had contact with some guys that would like to own an FN or a firearm in that category. I assured them that there wouldn't be any reversal on that one. But the Conservatives did take the Colt AR-15 off the restricted once. That was when old Joe Clark was in power. The only outstanding thing that Joe ever did that I can remember, except he wanted to put a few cents tax on fuel and Pierre Trudeau said he wouldn't do something like that. After he defeated the Conservatives he screwed us royally by doubling or tripling the amount Clark wanted to add. And the Canadian people voted Trudeau in time after time. What a dumb bunch of F&%#@$s we are, we can't remember anything after six months.

I would even be happy if they required a non-auto ejector block to be installed in the FAL to make it legal in Canada. I could certainly live with that!

Well if we could get some kind of movement from the government on changing the law , some companies might be inclined to produce a "variant" for the Cdn market. I agree here with Greentips, if we could get rid of the term "variant" we may be able to gain some ground. That said we need our own "spin doctors" change the perception of the traditional "assualt rifle".

Well I will be the first in line... however, Garry B in a recent press release indicates that we will work to rollback the laws to those that were in effect prior to the implemetation of c-68 with the exception of the minimum sentences. That would make all FN's and variants legal.

That is nice to hear. Go Garry!

I am curious would anyone know what was on the prohib list before C-68? I remeber my dad saying that we had prohibs before C-68.

Only new prohibs are short barelled handguns and those chambered in 25 and 32. Thats it. C68 has nothing to do with assault rifles.

Those'd be full auto and converted auto I believe.

1979 was the "black year" wasn't it?

Converted Auto's, FN's AUG's, AK's, etc, were not prohibited til '92. Rolling back the laws to pre-C68 WILL NOT unprohibit these firearms. It would have to be rolled back to pre-'92 laws.

FN's were not prohib in 92. Converted auto's maybe but I don't remember for sure.

I have in my hand my restricted permit from the RCMP in 93 for my FN so it would benifit all of us to ensure that we have our facts straight on the situation pre C-68 before we start lobbying for changes that may end up screwing us.

The order that prohib'd these came into effect 1 Jan 95 as indicated by another letter that I have in hand. This is the OIC 13 letter that incl AK's, FN's M-14's, Daewoo's, FNC's, HK 91's and 93's and Thompson SMG copies among others.

Hell, I just can't keep it all straight anymore. My Bren went straight from un-restricted to prohib in '92. I thought that's when the rest of the stuff went prohib too.

x2 & I would even let go the idea of getting an M1A & get an FN anytime of day, if they were to become non-restricted.
