Stumbled across an interesting rifle today while browsing through Target sports, a German sniper rifle known as the DSR-1, chambered in .338 Lapua.

I have never heard anything about this rifle before today, but after doing some brief bits of research, I learned that with the right ammo and operator, it is .2 MOA capable, and is used by the German GSG-9 Counter-Terrorist Group.

It captured my attention through it's unusual and interesting design. It is a bullpup style bolt action, and it hangs beneath the bipod. The front handguard is adjustable for comfort, and it has a fully adjustable stock and cheekpeice.

Are there many of these rifles that made it into Canada, or is the one at Target Sports the only one? At $11,000, it seems stupidly expensive, but it has really caught my eye.

Anybody ever gotten so see one up close, handle, or fire one of these? What did you think?

Here is the rifle in question.

I've only ever seen one once in a range in Vancouver. (think it was Langley, not sure though) Don't know if that helps. Oh, and the guy shot some groups at 100 yards, and I'd say the groups were a lot smaller than .2" More like one hole groups.
Here, someone actually made something similar to it, though his is more of a stock than a rifle. He didn't machine the action into the frame... http://ww w.dctechs.com/rifle.htm

If I remember correctly, in the real model, I believe that the frame is the receiver, and the barrel screws directly into it. It was just a picture I saw a long time ago, though. Also, I would hazard a guess that it was designed for urban combat (list of users on Wiki only list police/counter terrorism) Also, there is a special model just for subsonic ammunition.

However, for the money, I would just get an SRS with all the calibers, and use the rest on decent optics and reloading gear for all the calibers...

I know of several that were sold a few years ago. Retail can run into the mid teens. The rifles from what I've heard and read are touted as the most consistent precision system around. They do offer some distinct advantages. The "bullpup" style provides for a compact package or the ability to run a longer barrel without a significant increase in overall size. The bipod is mounted above the barrel, allowing the weight of the rifle to hang beneath rather than balance on top providing a more stable platform. The stock is completely adjustable and the rifle carries a spare magazine.

A unique setup for sure, but the price keeps it in the shadows.

Not to hijack, but couldn't a tube gun be set up very similarly overall to this rifle? Since the OEM receiver is bonded into the chassis, it shouldn't be a prohibited device.

TSE has one or two (in .338 laupa and I think another one or a conversion kit for .308) in their "sniper room" for well over 10,000. There wasn't even a number on the tag for the longest time; one of those "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" or "If you have to ask, you don't want to know" situations.

It looked and felt extremely well made, but I wouldn't expect any less at that price.

Are the dsr1 and the DT SRS both non-res like they should be?
