DTA SRS-a1... talk me into/out of it?

Well in my search of an available factory rifle in left hand configuration. It seems that thehigh end rifles are only right handed. I was interested in an AIAT, only limited run ever made lefty. The PGW coyote was number two also no lefty.

Then the much expensiver option avaliable in lefty, at my LGS. Is the dta srs-a1 308 win 22" barrel.

Who's got one? How's it handle? Any issues? Would you spend the money again? How are the mags?

I want reliability and warranty of a factory rifle. The resale doesn’t hurt either.

Main use bcra matches, prs In USA and range toy.
 
Well, you could just stop shooting on the wrong side:p

DTA's are good to go. For infinite DTA info go to Snipershide, bolt action rifles, make yourself a snack and start reading (Its in the stickies).

The only gripe people seem to have is there are no 10 round magazines, although they are supposedly coming out someday.

Oh I'd love to, but my horrible vision in right eye says different. It's like looking through a foggy window, shapes colours but no detail. Cannot make out reticle and target.
 
Great rifles....looking at one myself, but don't have the limitation of left handed.
There are 10 round SA mags currently available as well.
Nice that the overall size makes them more 'packable' and they are showing up in PRS as well. I believe that Desert Tech has a PRS team.
 
There are no shortage of debates over the pros and cons of a bullpup. It certainly offers some handling advantages... and far more compact.

Weight is also very nice.

If you can maintain/learn how to handle the bullpup shape wrt to cycling and mag changes, go for it. PRS matches are on the clock so if you can't run the set up as fast as a conventional action, this will be a disadvantage.

We in NA are very biased to actions in front of the grip... other countries not so much.

If you can, get behind one first and try it but obviously that's not always an option. My shooting partner had one and I found it very awkward to shoot. Maybe if I had more time behind it I could "warm" up to it but I didn't care for it. I also didn't care much for the trigger. That's my opinion though and everyone is different. For me the biggest issue are the magazines. We both shoot AI rifles, AX and AT and are spoiled by the 10 double stack magazines and their 2 stage triggers etc.
 
Faaaaack lefty sold, held a right was it ever awkward on the left. On the right it felt nice. Mag changes will take some getting used to but it doesn't feel heavy. I held a 26" 338lm version. Felt like my ar with the TT on top.
 
If I was starting again if sure be looking at a DTA. Big cost up front, but one 3000$ scope instead of 4.

I guess no one mentioned that the other alternative is private cataract surgery. Costs about $2K per eye and you end up with nice new lens. Still cheaper than a special lefty rifle.;)

Im guessing that based on BSANDs recent line of purchases that cost is not his concern......I'm also guessing based on his age that cataracts are not his problem.
 
From what I've read they were having some issues with the 10 round mag and they halted production. I believe they said after the MDR and something else comes out they will look into it again.

I got to palm a SRS covert a few weeks ago at a gun store. Nice rife over all though I thought the plastic felt little cheap, also as a very tall guy the bolt throw was a little hard to cycle.

I suppose wasn't clear. Cataract surgery is not just for people who have cataracts. In many cases if you are not eligible for laser surgery you can instead get your lens replaced (which is what cataract surgery does). You will then have proper vision again.

Cataract surgery is done for free under our medical system, if you actually have a cataract. However, you can get lens replacement done within the private system, with or without having a cataract.

Seems like i'm going to be too..... There doesn't seem to be a lefty SRS-A1 in OD green 308 win rifle in Canada... So I highly doubt I'm going to be able to get one now, as I won't be in a position to use or have any firearms with me in 6 months.
