DTA SRS muzzle blast damage scope

I decided to get into precision shooting recently and spent all my pennies on an SRS covert and a NF scope.
The 5-22x50 is recommended by DTA but I went a little further to the 8-32x56.

But when I go to mount it I realize that the scope comes out to the end of the barrel (16" .308 barrel on this covert). I bought the SRS chassis cause I also wanted to try 6.5 Creedmoor...so that's the reason for such a fancy scope. But I had planned to work on good habits using cheaper .308 and I'm afraid the short barrel and muzzle blast will damage my expensive optics.

Can anyone else chime in about any similar experience? This pic might help show my concern...

take the sunshade off.. look like it would be 2" back then...

then again it doesn't look like you've got a brake on there, so the gas / blast will be going forward...

also youve got a NF, they are built like tanks...

I asked this exact question on the hide, I had an answer from guys for the NF and S&B scopes neither had problems and both were not running supressors. The sunshade will actully protect your lens and in theory a brake will distrubute the concussion to the sides if it is timed correctly. I am in the process of ordering right now, so I don't have a real world anser for you...

I was thinking exactly that, hopefully the sunshade would help protect the glass.
And as UM says the gasses should theoretically all be going forward.

The SH people offer any other info? I tried to gooogle your post there but could not find it. If you could send me the url I would appreciate it...
