First off, PLEASE DONT FLAME ME. As I'm sure this is one of those weekly threads someone out up.
I am just getting into hunting (both bow and rifle) and my main goal is deer but hoping to expand to elk and moose. Now, I am looking to buy a rifle that I can use for both hunting and target shooting. Due to money restraints, I can't have a dedicated rifle for each. I am leaning towards getting an 11 Series Savage in .308 Win so I can hunt with it but also target shoot out 600-800m (ultimate goal right now I can do pretty good at 300m) with it.
I was looking at buying a Stevens in either 30-06 or .270 Win but neither of those make attractive target rounds IMO.
If any of you guys have had the same kind of problem, let me know what your solution was. Is it worth buying a Stevens 30-06 or ,270 Win with scope package and trying to double it as a target rifle or is it better to spend more, buy an 11 Series in .308 and try not to bang it around too much in the bush.
