I have never tried one for CQB type shooting, but love them for precision work. They give the effect of having a lighter trigger pull than you really have, which lets you shoot better while making a minimum pull weight requirement like in Service Rifle and/or can give you the feel of a lighter trigger than would be safe with a single stage design.
I think it all depends on what your application is. My very first AR15, Armalite, had a 2-stage match trigger and was phenominal to shoot groups with. However, my ACR has a very crisp single stage, which I find helps me shoot and reset quicker. I tend not to gravitate or fix myself to one idea/method, try them both and see which you prefer.
The Lee-Enfieds and the US made P 14/17 Enfieds all had two stage triggers and I liked them. My .30-06 win made Enfield, which I sporterized, had a great trigger as i just stoned it. That old rifle would shoot as good or better than a Rugger 77 in the same calibre.
I believe that the reasoning behind the two stage triggers on some military rifles was that they were safer.
Never having been a competition shooter but a hunter, I really can't give an opinion on triggers for such rifles. All of my hunting was done with hand loads with much experimenting, probably firing a 100 or so rounds each summer for each rifle, until I was satisfied with the results - some was with two stage triggers in the .303s and .30-06 whereas the other factory sporters were all single stage.
I have used KAC and Geiselle SSA triggers in my AR's....I find the Geiselle a better trigger and there is nothing mushy about it....Lee Enfield No4...that's a mushy 2 stage.
I have a reworked single stage crisp trigger on one of my CZ's and it definatley helps me shoot.
I'm looking at a Savage in 223 with the AccuTrigger and it's intriging to say the least..
thanks every one. I have never shot one & don't know any one that has one(to the best of my knowledge). This has been helpful even if it ain't(gives an idea).
Best AR trigger hands down for me is the ARGold. A two stage that feels like a tricked 1911 trigger. Its twice as expensive as everything else for a reason.

This video, although long, contains a bunch of useful info about trigger design and applications. Even if you don't end up with a Geissele trigger, the info is good. 2-stage vs single stage is touched on after the 20 min mark. Grab a coffee, sit back and enjoy.
The more I hear Bill Geissele talk, the happier I am that I own a Geissele trigger. That guys live and breaths triggers, and you can tell he takes a TONNE of pride in what he does. They aren't cheep, but they are crazy good.
