Duracoated ("Combat Green") my Remington 870 Police on Monday. Took awhile as it was my first time using an airbrush so I wanted to be careful and the paint is not cheap. Did the trigger mechanism as well! Painted the recon tanto, it needed a new coat of paint, after 12 years.

Well they look great, the tritium rocks. But I don't have a range report yet, that's next:D Thanks alot to Blackcat Coatings out in Alberta, for the paint of course and advice.

Looks good , can you describe the prep work and the primer , if any . Will duracoat be as durable as the original finish ?

Prep work (for a parkerised finish like I had) was to use a degreaser, I used their Trustrip although brake cleaner can be used. Taped off the areas I didn't want to touch, the sights were a PITA. No primer. Mixed the paint with their hardener at a ratio of 12:1. Sprayed on and voila. Duracoat is supposed to be as durable. Besides I hated the feel of the parkerized finish that I had prior and it left marks and atracted dust/dirt real easy. This is a hell of alot smoother. My only beef is the shine, I would've preferred something more matte.

Thanks ADK , i thought that you took the original finish down to bare metal .

Buds what type of airbrush did you use? I have a Badger 350. I wanted to know if this one will work?

Yours will definitely work as the airbrush I used was (Badger brand) their bottom of the barrel basic starter kit with the can of compressed air, I had no compressor! The only thing I could adjust on the airbrush was how much paint came out and the air pressure on the can.

Thanks Bud, BTW nice job for the first time. I'm going to try a "camo" job using the decal material. More to follow. Oh yea did you have to thin the paint alot? how did it cover? I was told by a rep that you can paint over lettering without it being erased?(the reference here is the lettering on most rail systems)

Thanks, I'm happy for my first time, no dirt or threads or hair in the paint. What's in the pics is "external debris". I didn't need to thin the paint, but if you end up having to they reccomend a laquer based thinner which i had on hand. You're looking at about 8-10 coats in those pics. They say for a parkerized gun you need a few coats (6-7) just to layer over the old finish. Then a few more on top of that. If that's what the rep told you about the lettering ( I'm assuming you mean like KAC on a rail system, the white lettering) then I'm sure its fine. The paint goes on pretty thin although the breech block felt just a hair tighter going back into the receiver.
