Hello All,

I'm thinking of upgrading my boat blind for the coming waterfowl season (I've got a lot of time to think about it...) and looking for a couple inovative ideas. I primarily use my 14' aluminum boat with mud motor to get me around the cat tails of Long Point, but after using the same blind for the past 3 seasons, it's pretty beat up, and I think its time for an upgrade.

Any idea's where I can find some info?

Jay

Welcome to Gunnutz!

Here is an idea I got from a waterfowl site. I sold my 14ft aluminum before I got a chance to build it.

You could make up your own blind material from plastic landscape net, burlap and dye your own raffia grass.

Very Cool blind idea! The only problem i see with it is that it appears (if i am reading it correctly) that the blind has to be taken down if you need to fire up the motor to retrieve a bird. Sometimes they get way out there (above the waders), and with the long handle on the mud motor the blind has to drop down. If you can explain to me how to post pics on here (such as you have) I'll show you a pic of my home made blind.

The Avery quick set blind does look pretty cool and it seems to fit most boats with quick a drop down and set up.

Built mine in my spare time over the summer. Cost less than $100 for the frame. Mostly made out of steel conduit. No welding or bending required. Attach to the boat using pieces of L shape steel or if you're really fancy, bimini hardware. Folds up, folds down. Now if only I didn't have to row to get to my spot...

It was still a work in progress when I took those pics. I'm switching out the green backing for green or camo tarp. The plastic fencing was too difficult to work with once out on the water. I like the refuge model but it doesn't work for my style of boat as you need flat front on it and casting deck in the back so I had to improvise.

The grass is on there via a plastic wool needle and is 'sewn' on using some sort of twine I got at the home depot. It held up really well for the whole season, all things considered. I forgot the camo part outside for the winter though so I'll see how firm the burlap is once I repaint the inside of the boat.
