Duck call while goose hunting

I have heard of guys, while hunting migratory game birds will use the calls of different types of birds. While the geese are coming in, they will blow on a duck call. While the ducks are coming in they will blow on a goose call. I have heard it spooks the animal less. I guess its harder for a goose to distinguish a poor duck call and a duck to distinguish a poor goose call?!?

Any opinions on this theory? I have only ever used a goose call while hunting geese. I am by no means a professional, but I sure try...

calling anything poorly will likely scare off the intended game bird.
I can not call ducks or geese to save my life so it was either pass shooting or set up some decoys and hope the ones passing where interested in the layout.
Brant calling was easy and made for some good laughs after the shoot was over.

Well they may have a brain the size of a pea but even a goose knows a Canada goose decoy doesn't quack like a duck. That said though if you are hunting a spot where they have been sitting together shouldn't be an issue. I have had mallards come bombing right in to a goose call over a goose spread because they were accustomed to feeding in the same spot with their larger cousins.
