Duck Duck Goose!

So after work, was chatting with the wife, talking about duck/goose hunting... I was reading the paperwork, and lo and behold, goose opened here two days ago?!! I could have sworn it opened Saturday!

So we hopped into the truck and went scouting around. Only geese I saw were in a farmers field, which is pretty close to the road .

Went back onto some logging roads, and saw 30+ ducks in a few different small bogs/ponds... So I guess when duck opens I'll try em out with the canoe, and hopefully get some! Jon boat won't fit

Do you guys generally have good luck when asking farmers to hunt their land? I don't think I'll bother w/ this one farm, as I said it's quite close to the road....

But there's tonnes of farms like an hour away from here... It's where I'm thinking I'll go, unless geese like to go into back wood ponds/lakes?


Anyways, this is my first year going for ducks/geese... I'm pretty stoked!

Many farmers encourage goose hunting due to damage of crop's, just ask and if they do grant permission remember to respect the land. (pick up all empty hulls)

In ontario expect some competition for property, I had my properties lined up in Early August, chances are though if you saw a field full of geese so did other hunters.

It never hurts to ask, I have gotten a lot of yesses, most people are pretty lazy or rude so if you are neither you'll be fine. There is a right way and a wrong way to ask for permission. Best to get started now instead of later though.

I wouldnt let close to the road discourage me. I have had some amazing hunts with my layouts set barely 20 yards from a hwy with the road at my back and birds landing in to me. Its just a matter of being safe and doing it legally.Alot of folks have gotten quite the roadside shows from us over the years. Many stop to watch at times and none have ever interfered!! You may be surprised at how many farmers will say yes....best bet though is go early..June..July and dont just show up during season. Cultivate a friendship. Be thankful and respectful and be safe and courteous. Seen alot of guys kicked out after not obeying the rules. Got a few exclusive places now due to others ignorance!
