Hey all,

For those in BC, where is a good spot to hunt some geese and ducks in the lower mainland area? We're thinking of going sometime mid/end-October.

Thanks for the input.

Oh and what licences do I need? I have my PAL, CORE. What other ones do I need?

Can't help you with a spot, but you will also need the Migratory Bird Stamp. You can get it at any Post Office. About 20 bucks.

Just doing some research I need (in BC)

A CORE (hunter's education) license, a Hunter Number Card (free with the CORE license), a BC Resident Hunting License ($32), and a Cdn Migratory Game Bird Stamp ($20).

That's it?

That's it, that's all. Other than a good understanding of the regulations for waterfowl and a whole lot of non-tox shot!

Also, tell me more about duck and goose calls. Are they necessary? Where's a good place to get some non-tox shot? I've got a Mossberg 500 3'' capable.

Decoys and calls, IMO, are very important. Buy a call and check out videos how to blow them, and, well, you know what they say about Carnegie hall right?

I buy non-tox shot wherever they carry Kent but those are my personal preference. The 5 other guys I shoot with shoot 5 different kinds than I do and all swear by them. Pattern your gun and shoot what shoots best.

I believe you will also need a municipal licence to hunt most places in the lower mainland and to get it you will need proof of liability insurance for I think 1,000,000. check into it, I may be wrong

Obviously you need a refresher on your CORE as a key part of passing that was to be able to read or have read the BC Hunting Regulations, Yes??

If you are hunting in the Fraser Valley for any game animal you will need the Fraser Valley Special Areas Permit and in order to buy that "You Will Need Proof of One Million Dollars Liability Insurance" .

Also do not forget to fill out the inside cover of your BC Resident Hunting Lic. as failing to do so will cost you $164.00 , apparently the CO's where having a field day in the Lower Fraser Valley today with hunters who bought lic at the last minute.

I was one of several hunters who bought a hunting lease in the Glen Valley. Farmers are often willing to let you hunt their land if you present yourself well and clean up at the end of the day. Start slow, ask for just one day at first, and go from there, just like courting a woman. If you do well you'll have a permanent spot and improve the image of hunting where it matters most.
