Hi all,

I'm looking for some suggestions on duck hunting areas around Ottawa (or on the Quebec side).

Thanks.

No one is going to give away their secret public spot for duck hunting. Make some friends in the area to take you out, or start knocking on doors.

There are no ducks within 500km of Ottawa, move along.

Actually there are plenty of opportunities if you look, lots of water and lots of agriculture lead to lots of waterfowl. Start with Google Maps, then spend lots of time scouting.

I ask because having moved out here from BC, I'm surprised by how hard it is to find lakes that do not have cottages on them. BC never went through the public land selling spree that Ontario did, so it's rare to find lakes in BC on crown land that have private owners on the shore. Seems everywhere we go around this province people own the shorelines, which obviously makes it more difficult to find a good spot to go, within driving distance, that doesn't bother the property owners.

if you re not afraid to travel a little i will suggest to look around the st lawrence river.

i know some good spots around Quebec city but as you see now im the farthest northwest from those areas and dont know how they re those days ...

if you speak french try the french side of the forum.

Ottawa river. Good spot right across from the public boat launch at Rockland.....a GREAT spot a couple of miles downstream from Wendover. Google Earth :)

Pair of binoculars... a full tank of gas... clean set of clothes... a few hours driving during early morning and late evening... and sore knuckles from knocking on doors... you'll be good to go.

i used to hunt at a farm in kemptvill ontarion ( off the 416) the farm belogs to alain hicks( also know as crazy hicks, ol man hicks and the guy that crashed his lierjet into rr44) he is more then happy to let you shoot and i quote'' those virmen '' in his field , just a hint he likes rose wines :shotgun:

There is a big nature preserve marsh on the Ottawa River, Quebec side halfway to Hawksbury. If there is a preserve, there will be field shooting nearby.

I'm not sure if you guys are being serious or not. I'm not a city guy. Living in Ottawa is quite different from way up in northern BC. I google mapped both the Rideau and the Ottawa rivers and there seems to be fields and houses in all directions. It seems very odd to me to be out hunting next to where people live. I'm used to being out in the middle of nowhere.

Hunting waterfowl is a little different around here. Lots of good shooting to be had in many interesting places. I hunt right along the city no-discharge boundaries and "Urban" waterfowling produces some pretty awesome opportunities.

While I won't necessarily give up my spots I can point you in the right directions. Have you got a boat?

Shoot me a PM.

yes outside the preservation in Quebec around Turso too (so on the other side) but check to be sure to be outside fine will be high ...

Make sure you hunt upwind of Thurso if the mill is still operational. The Ottawa and Rideau ARE very populated, near the city. You need to drive a bit.
