Hay guys!
I am looking to buy a pair of lower body water resistant/proof pants, what do you use ?
Can you go in the water with them? What can you recommend? I have a jacket that's made for chest waders but if I can get away from chest waders would be cool if not...

All my pants let me go in the water, but none keep me dry.

I was going to say something like that, but just didn't have the right words.

Waders? If you are new to duck hunting, you have two choices.

Get cheap hip waders and replace them every couple of years because of leaks and still enjoy getting booters to some degree every time you go out. But not a lot invested if you find you don't like duck hunting.

Get good, high quality neoprene chest waders which will last you for at least 10 years. They'll keep you dry and warm but makes taking a leak essentially a five minute disrobing. Couple of hundred bucks.

Your making this away to complicated young fella. Try these guide lines when duck hunting.

If your field hunting, or hunting where you won't be in water camo pants of your choosing with long underwear under neath if its cold, plus a ordinary pair of rubber boots.

If your going to be in water over your ankles buy the best pair of chest waders you can afford. DO NOT buy cheap waders. As stated if it's cold wear long underwear.

This is not rocket science.

Most of the time I'm not going into the water but on my way to my spot I wade thru wet grass (chest high). I use Helly Hansen Impertec jacket and pants. I hope its helps.

Exactly. I'll throw in that you should but Neoprene waders rather than breathable waders. The breathable ones add very little to the experience and increase the cost dramatically. Neoprene also has the bonus of helping to insulate against the cold. I use my flyfishing waders and felt-soled boots which have the added bonus of having great grip if you're in slippery conditions.

My mother-in-law bought cheap ($100) waders from Canadian Tire this spring for fishing in front of the house and she's now on her third pair in 2 months. Buy once, cry once.

The "wader pants" you linked are to be worn under your waders.... not sure why they are wind/water resistant then.. Good advice given above, except I have to disagree with Big Ugly's felt sole advice. If you will be walking on grass, mud, etc. then get lug soles. I have skated my way to the bottom of more than one hill (both above and under water) in felts.

Felt soles are great for rocky terrain along river/lake shores.

thnx guys i know its not something hard to understand i just dont want to have to make the mistake of buying the wrong gear, and it is good to see what the guys with experiance say about clothing.

Hell, half the time I just wade in wearing what I'm wearing (Carhartts blend nicely with cattails) and when I get cold I figure that's God telling me to shut'er down and head home.

Buy some wader, take care of them to prevent rips in anything you have, i accidently put a small tear in mine from a screw sticking out on my canoe. Got em from cdn tire, works great, spend your $ on a really good jacket that will keep you warm and dry, a hat, camo shirt incase you get too warm and have your jacket open, and just reg pants that you layer underneath with heavy socks to keep feet warm. I spend my day sitting in knee deep freezing water hunting the end of the yr. Also a good pair of gloves so your hands dont freeze up and end up harder to pull trigger.
