Duck survives two days in fridge

I'm at a loss for words.

Which is better i suppose than being at a loss for brains, which is clearly the case when someone leaves a duck alive in their fridge for 2 days un-plucked and ungutted.

While I agree with the alive part, I and many other waterfowlers do age our waterfowl feathered and intact for several days to two weeks. My late season birds hang at just above freezing for two weeks to produce a very noticeable IMPROVEMENT in texture and taste. Of course you don't do this with heavily shot up birds. Absent a cold garage most guys do this by laying them breast up ungutted in the fridge (usually an extra fridge and NOT the one you're wife is putting the chiffon cake into).

Again the stupid part is taking the duck to the vet. I would have given it (a ringnecked duck if anyone cares) another knock and made sure this time.

This story has all the hallmarks of a BBC or NY Times fabrication. If in the unlikley circumstance it were true the hunter should find another hobby.

What's very sad about the whole thing that no one has mentioned, is that while the duck was in the fridge he drank 5 budweiser and as soon as his treatment for wounds are over, is expected to have a lengthy stint in rehab:D :D :D :D :D

I keep picturing that damn AFLACK (or whatever it is) duck, prancing out of his fridge. I HATE THAT AFLACK DUCK !!!!!

Now THAT'S funny!!:D
I can just picture thatt Aflack duck doin' that!

I would like to slap that fella with a wet shell bag  How would you not know the duck was alive:)

Duck would have a limp neck if he was knocked out wouldn't he?

Even still, feathers in the fridge for a couple of days seems odd.

I am with the folks who say BULL####. I do not believe this story. It is more "anti" type fabrication. Come on, the reported details just do not add up.

Again. read my post above. I and many others deliberately leave our ungutted unplucked birds to age at refrigerator temps for several days to 2 weeks. Not saying this is what this guy was doing but I've been experimenting with the aging for 3 years now and there is a very favourable difference in the taste of birds aged the way I described. I though, make sure my birds are very dead before being chilled.

Also birds require less oxygen while resting than mammals do. So it is quite reasonable that is would survive for 2 days. I had a neighbor that had hit an owl with her car and put it in the freezer while she applied for a possession permit. 36 hours after she had hit it she went to the freezer to take it out so she could take it to F and W. Bird leaped out of the freezer and banged and shat arounf her kitchen for 2-3 minutes until they could usher out a door and into the great unknown.
