Dull Barrel- its new

Newb question(see the name)I just cleaned my 14" fabarm for the first time and have noticed that the 25% of the barrel closest to the muzzle is dull. This dull area isnt even so it cant be there on purpose its just....smudgy while the rest of the barrel is shiny. Multiple passes through with the brush and patches/hoppers havent made it shine again? Its eaten a ton of shells before cleaning as well as a box of slugs. (or two)

What causes this? Do I need to hook the brush up to my drill and just go for it?
 
Its probably plastic residue from the wads. I love the smell of Hoppe's ( a little behind the ear will drive the wife wild :)) but it doesn't work well to remove wad residue. The best stuff I have used is a variant of Ed's red which is equal parts of ATF, acetone, varsol, and turpentine.

+1 on the smell of Hoppes... I love the way the house smells after a good gun cleaning... (so far no complaints from the Mrs.)

Have you seen the Hoppes #9 air fresheners?!?!? Tempted to get one for the truck, but they're like 6 bucks...

Yup got one in my truck and one in the engine truck and another in the ladder truck,they dont last too long
