If you want it to be non-permanent, then just rub on some Johnson Paste Wax and leave it hazy. Wipe off when you want it shiny again....

Complete dissasembly of the barreled action is a must then a really good flush at the varsol tank to get rid of the media that wants to hide in all the nooks and crannys. As previously stated this is a good no shine finish for the Rugers. I have one Ruger 77 Mk 2 in 25-06 Left Hand in the shop right now that is covered in light rust " shock " this is a stainless steel gun and I am very surprised at the sight of it. So through the blast cabinet it went and the a sealant coat to keep th weather off it. Have any of you fellas had any similar experiances with a rusting stainless steel gun. I saw it once before on a Browning Stainless Stalker. David.

Over the years I have seen several "stainless" rifles change color drasticlly. In every case the piece had been left in a wet soft case for an extended period of time. The worst I saw was a Mod. 70 left in a leaky Camper,in a soft case, on Vancouver Island for about three weeks. It turned a mottled black. Actually I found it kind of attractive but the customer was not happy. I never did find out whether or not he fixed the Camper. Winchester replaced the rifle.

I've seen corrosion on stainless rifles in the North, seacoast climate + neglect. Stainless Ruger Minis with real pitting in the gas system. The stainless in rifles is corrosion resistant, but is a different alloy than stainless kitchen cutlery. By the same token a CrMo rifle would look like a tomato stake when treated the same.

Cant help but chuckle when the big manufacturers advertise their products as "All Weather Rifles" or " Weather Warrior" or some catchy phrase like that. I guess these new coatings and bake on finishes will be the next frontier in durability. David Henry.
