dumb question re lee dies

so im due for a dumb question..
im not to up to date on lee dies,so my dumb question of the day is

how do you tell if the dies are carbide or not??are they stamped carbide?

They should be so-stamped...

You can see the carbide ring in the base of the sizing die.

The sizing die(Lee) on my press says 10/40 L7...I think the steel isn't so shiny....just a guess....

its for a 38

the die is stamped 38-357 k9

Earlier poster is correct. You will clearly see a steel insert ring on the base of the sizing die. That ring insert is in fact the carbide sizing ring. The letter/numbers following the caliber on the die are a dating code.

ok it looks like there is a insert on the bottom of the die,it looks to be about half inch deep..so i can assume this is a carbide die..
