Dumb Second Guessing - Picking a .17 HMR - Scope Choice?

I have a CZ 455 combo .22 / .17 HMR on layaway.... $175 down on the $625 gun. It is a terrific gun, I know...

But then I saw the Savage 93R17 FVXP Bolt-Action Rifle w/ Scope for $325 at Cabela's. Ok, the price is lower, for starters, due to the synthetic barrel on the Savage, and the CZ has an extra barrel. The Savage has a heavy barrel.

So on price and stock you can't compare the two. Savage is a great name too.

So I dislike second guessing my purchase. I also have to pick out a scope for the CZ.

I don't think it is necessary to spend a fortune on a scope for a gun that will shoot up to 300 yards. I'll rule out $1000 Leopold territory right now. What scope should I throw on the CZ? Name & online dealer.
 
I have the savage 93 in .17HMR and .22. Love them both. Any chance you can get your layaway back?? Having said that, CZ'd are awesome too.

I'd get a scope with some sort of hash marks so you can practice holdovers with the .17. You're right, it doesn't have to be expensive glass for 300yds. Maybe look at the Burris's. They have some low cost, yet tactical style, scopes.

I have owned the Savage BTVS, and the 93R17 TR, and I sold them both and now only have my CZ455s. Don't second guess your gun purchase, you will be glad you have the CZ. For my CZ I picked up the Leupold 3-9x33 Rimfire with EFR. It was not $1000, great scope. But other popular scopes from Rimfire Central forums include Mueller APV which I think you can find on Amazon, or Bushnell. Ultimately it is a 22LR so you can pretty much put any scope on it at any price range. I was checking out the Nikon rimfires and Sightrons as well.
 
Warne rings and Talley rings are also highly recommended. Also if you want a pitcatinny rail pick up a DIP rail from kinney shooting supplies, word is they ship to canada no problem.

I have a couple Hawke's which I really enjoy for rimfire, never tried the Mueller tho so I can't compare. Personally, I prefer a fine duplex on 17hmr... it is plus or minus 1.5" out to 150 yards which is further than I would typically use it. Another for you to consider is the lower line Vortex stuff...lifetime no fault warranty.
 
Something with an AO. I've had good luck with the vortex cross fire ii. The BDC reticle is reasonably fine,I use the turrets and not the hold overs. A few months back I purchased a 6-24 x 50 from PGT for $319 ,great scope for the price. I ordered a mueller ,was junk out of the box.Would never buy a scope without a good warranty.
 
Ok first off don't laugh, get the simmons calibre specific .17hmr(seriously stop laughing) scope if you like the whole know the range and turn the dial on the scope to that yardage thing. Its been an absolute dream on my 9317r I go, I range, I dial, I accomplish. Also its like what 175 bucks? I was gunna put a Nikon on it and I have 3 Nikons on various rifles, rimfire to centerfire but I gave it a whirl on this simmons, and wouldn't ya know it from 50-75-100-125-150 its bang on for elevation. And that's the truth
 
Ok- you may doubt things now, but you won't once you get your combo! I really like the calibre switch in 10 minutes- but I do find I need to re-zero with a few clicks here/there each time as it is not 100% repeatable. Yes- you can buy two rifles almost for the same money, but then you are buying 2 scopes and all the rest.

I wouldn't bother with the rails- I just mounted leupold rimfire rings to the dovetail. Get high enough rings as the bolt handle may hit the scope if the rings are not high enough. There is a thread on rimfire central about what scopes and ring combinations work.

I have a Nikon Prostaff 5 4.5-18x40 on it and I am happy with it. The extra mag is nice because .17 cal holes are tiny! I also have a Hawke sidewinder 6.5-20 and a Bushnell legend HD 4.5-14 which are nice too, but I'd give the Nikon a slight edge. The Bushy is probably the best value in my opinion though- it costs less than the other two but it works great.

If you get a higher mag scope (above 9x) you really should get one with AO (focus) and if you spend time in the field a side focus is nice- I like them and all the above scopes are SF.

I wouldn't get a calibre specific scope as it will not work for the .22lr barrel. 17 cal holes at 100 yards need probably at least 12x unless you have a very good contrast target.
 
Leupold VX-2 3-9X33 EFR. More expensive than most rimfire scopes, but it's a one time purchase. Need more magnification? Vortex Crossfire series.
