Dumping our C7

Yes but you keep your rifle lubed and you clean it and the CF gives you CLP and swabs. The ANA have cleaning supplies from us but when we leave am sure budget cuts will kick in. AKs are more durable and cheaper the the C7 Not better just will last longer in the hands of a 3rd world country.

Also I do alot of work on the C7 to keep it running when your not using it "Wpns Tech"

Care to fill me in on your particular background that would give any credibility to what you are saying? I love weapon techs, good ones. But your comments remind me of someone else who professed to be an expert in gear ("Gear is what I do") when he was in fact a supply tech.

Sure will :)

Reg force wpns tech since 2002 in a unit based in CFB Petawawa.
There are afew on CGN who know me well. If you think am a glue bag no worries, your not the first ;) lol

Am not say the AK is a better weapon, But saying the AK is a Better choice since it does not need as much user mataince and the ammo is easyier to get in that area and cheaper.

5.56 brass is pricey and will need to be imported for the ANA after we leave and the ANA will have mixed ammo in there army with some units using 7.62x39 and some using 5.56, which can cause problems

Betcha his still works ;)

Betcha not very well ;)

If properly trained and disciplined, there is no reason why a third world army cannot use something besides the AK. Yes, it is more rugged and easier to maintain, but so what?

Most CF members didn't know anything about firearms or their maintenance before joining, and you learn by having the Cpl teach you, and if you don't pick it up well enough, you get charged for a dirty weapon after an inspection, after which you learn.

South Africa managed to teach third world soldiers who were often illiterate and didn't even speak English or Afrikaans how to use the FN. There are lots of third world countries that use non AK pattern small arms, and they manage.

this crap burns my ass!!!!!!!!!!! We can't get a damn flash hider up here with licences, yet our government is giving away full-auto rifles to a country that will no doubt use them against foreign soldiers the next time they are invaded. ARGGGHHHH!!!!

:agree:

Keep in mind that the country in question falls into the catagory of allies.

I appreciate that is the current situation, however things happen.

Regardless of politics over there, we still have a huge amount of stupidity here. The very governments that are in the process of disarming our public, the very public which has been bending over backwards to comply with half-assed arbitrary laws that do nothing to protect the public or police , are arming another country's public.

Sorry it just rubs me the wrong way.

,BTW they are not arming the public they are rearming the National Army, big difference.

Yes it is, however

unstable government and warlord class, the rifles will soon be diverted

Afghanistan, right or wrong, has made a living off the illicit drugs they produce for generations. It's one think to topple a regime and another to change a systemic society.

These kandaks that have the C7s do not opperate independantly of CF mentoring (for now) so it's unlikely that the weapons are dissapearing under the Canadian militaries nose. The Afghan army is being asked to take on a lions task and I for one am of the opinion that we should do everything we can to ensure that they have the tools and training to carry out that task. The sooner that happens the sooner me and my friends can stop risking our asses over there.

Since Afghanistan does not have its own ammunition factory - anything is "a non standard round"

Most of the Ak's there are in a #### state - and their ammo is not the best.

Either we import new 7.62 Russian for them, or new 5.56mm

Canada is not the only NATO country training on and giving out 5.56mm rifles. The US has been training the Kabul Kandaks and the ANCOP police units (special service/ tactical police) for a number of years now and have given them tens of thousands of rifles.

We keep forgetting that the war is throughout Afghanistan and not centered solely around the "Kandahar bubble".

I personally prefer to have the ANA use a 5.56 rifle. The simple reason is that if the Afghan government wants to keep these new rifles loaded, the easiest way is to STAY allied with the west, otherwise their ammo supply will be gone, and will be forced to fight with ancient AKs and inferior ammo. A bit like getting a person hooked on drugs, and being the only supplier of said drugs.
