Has anyone painted a firearm with Duplicolor Engine Enamel? Is the durability decent?

I just finished priming and painting my worn RIA 10/22 with Flat Black. I was planning on putting a few coats of the Clear Coat but I would have been over the 1 hour recoat window as per the instructions. I would have to wait 1 week before applying the clear.

Looking for advice on whether I should clear coat or not? I don't think it would be necessary with any of the other colours since they have a bit of a sheen to them but the Flat Black might scuff easier...

I'll post some pictures of the work in progress tomorrow.

Cheers

Here's how it turned out after baking at 300F for 2 hours.

I made a little oopsie in the buffer pin hole before I put it in the over. After curing, it seems super durable.

Thanks.

For my next project I have a Black Box Customs cerakoted M&P slide that's a bit worn from hostler use. I might try spraying that with the "Cast Iron Coat" for fun. Apparently it's pretty similar to disruptive grey. I know it'll wear faster than actual cerakote but in theory I should just be able to touch up wear marks at any time.

Brake caliper paint.
I used it on a jungle carbine Enfield that was rusted and seized up bad. Took me weeks just to get parts moving enough to remove and then strip it all down and get finish off.
Was my exes grandfathers moose rifle that was wrapped in a blanket after he died and left in a wet basement for 20 years....

If you surface prep right and use caliper paint and bake it on, its a very durable finish and it looked really good.
She took it with her after we divorced otherwise I'd get some pics up

You actually make a very good point . Although not as tough you can simply repaint anytime . I like it

I feel for your loss man. You put a lot of effort into that rifle and it's something that's irreplaceable.

Very nice job on the RIA. I removed the WW2 Russian tank primer paint off the stock on a couple of them. Just gave them a good coat with BLO. Other than the odd spot where they filled the bad spots with body putty, they actually turned out nice. As time went by, the one I kept turned out really neat. The dark grains turned almost black and stood out against the blonde fence post wood.

Can confirm thickness of whatever they coated the stock with. I stained mine with a grey stain and finished with BLO. I'll post pics once it's all back together.

I have never tried it on a gun but use it 100% on my honda snowblower rebuilds which are out in pretty harsh weather and I am 1/2 mile from the ocean so lots of salt in the air
Trem clad and others were just not cutting it for me
I cannot see why it won't be oK on your gun
Nice job by the way
Cheers

Finished. I had a Kidd Bolt Handle on there but it was binding and chewed up the side of the receiver so the stock one went back on. Also, Kidd extractors don't work on RIA 10/22s if anyone was thinking about getting one. We'll see how well the paint holds up during Race Gun events this year.
